It could be a bad headlight switch, a bad connection at the headlight or a bad ground. Make sure all connections are free of corrosion. Also make sure no after market items have been added improperly wired. Like fog lights trailer plugs etc.
Check Ground wires to your head light harness try grounding the ground wire on lamps if they go bright U have ground problem if you ground it all lights maybe effected by this problem remmemmber only left side so sounds like ground try it
Seems to be having problems with the alternator. Alternator itself can be bad, but also the voltage regulator, which sits inside the PCM (powertrain control module).
Don´t continue using with battery voltage around the 10V, because it will ruin your battery as well. Completely charge the battery with an external battery charger and let the alternator be checked out first.
it sounds like you have a bad connection on the left headlight either the earth or the power wire, check the connector on the headlight bulb plus all the other wiring & connector plugs.....hope this helps.....cheers.
I have a few beetle ( vw and audi too) customers who are regulars for headlamps. I first had this problem on my 96 audi a4 and I came up with a simple solution If you have fog lamps leave them on all the time. my headlamp failures went way down when I did that.
Try this if you have fog lamps, my customers did not have fog lamps so they could not try it.
Hope this helps, it it does please leave feedback and vote Thank You and Good Luck
REPLACE THE FOG LAMP SWITCH DOWN ON THE STEERING COLM. REMOVE THE PROTEC. PANEL UNDER STEERING COLM. AND GENTLY START TO LOWER THE COLM. WATCH OUT FOR THE SHIFT IND. WIRE- REMOVE IT- LOWER COLM. AND HALF WAH DOWN ON THE TOP SIDE IS THE SWITCH FOR THE FOG LAMP CONTROL IF YOU HAVE ALREADY REPLACED THE ELEC. SWITCH - (PUSH BUTTON OR ROCKER STYLE ).IN THE DASH. IF - - LIGHTS AREON AND THE FOG LAMPS ARE TURNED ON AND THE HEAD LIGHT GO OUT OR WONT CHANGE FROM DIM TO BRIGHT REPLACE HIGH/LOW SWITCH ON COLM. SAME PROCEDURE AS FOG CONTOL SWITCH.
