Car will run but when you try to give it fuel it tries to die

The fuel cap is part of the Evaporative Emissions System and must be an airtight seal. Try spraying around the sealing surface of the cap with WD40 and also spray and clean around the mouth of the fuel filler on the vehicle. Never remove the cap when the engine is running.

The P0??? code should clear itself in a few days, but if it doesn't you will need a garage to read the code and a replace the part giving the issue. If it is the cap again, just replace it.

Think the oil pressure switch keeps the fuel pump running once started. Suggest replacing Oil pressure switch. And no it won't effect oil pressure reading when it goes bad. The switch is a safety device. When you roll it over and the oil pressure drops the switch cuts off the fuel pump. Neat huh? Need some good feedback Thanks!

Sounds to me like a fuel filter.When was the last time it was changed?Because if a car starts and runs till you give it gas under load then dies it is a fuel problem.Start by chaging fuel filter and if problem still persists then next thing to check is fuel pump.

Three things you might want to try: check your fire(make sure your plugs are not fouled and your distributor cap and rotor button are not burned) and also check your fuel filter and air filter.

Check for an air leak in the fuel system. It sounds like the son-in -law did good work but missed an air leak somewhere. The system is not providing enough fuel to the engine. The other possibility is that you are pulling a vacuum on the fuel tank. They have to be vented either through the cap or through the canister. First take the fuel cap off and see if the truck will run. If it does put the fuel cap back on and pull the hose off the canister and try to run the truck. If it runs it was the canister.

if you replace module and still had no spark. then it was not the module it could be the ignition coil. you need spark no spark no run...check power to the distrbutor. check that the distrbutor is turning.

Look to replace ignition module.

i have a 99 5.7 chevy suburban and have to use starting fluid for it to turn on , ive replaced the fuel reg. and fuel pump is 4years old fuel filter 6months old new cam and crank sensor new distrbutor rotor and cap

Check to see if the fuel pump is working. It makes a whirring noise when key is turned to start. If you cannot hear tht noise. it is probably a bad fuel pump. Next check if it has spark. remove a sprk plug and using heavy gloves or bundled rag, connect plug to wire and hold thread of spark plug to ground. If it has spark. It will "spark " a bluish spark. If not, then the problem lies in the coils.or distributer . Check that all the wires are good and that they are inserted into the ditributer cap snug . Check cap for cracks also check the rotor. If cap is humid, spray WD40 into it to dissipate any moisture. Check coils (if equipped without distrbutor) . Have car scanned for free at any auto parts store to get a trouble code.
