Torque spec for rear pinion nut on a 1989 GMC pickup, 2WD. 8.5 ring gear

I don't know but if there is one it shouldn't be too difficult to find.

Some axles have a torque figure and the bearing preload is adjusted by graduated spacers or shims but some axles use a single use collapsible spacer and the pinion nut must be tightened until the correct bearing preload is reached.
Carrying out work on that type of axle that doesn't require the axle to be dismantled such as replacing the pinion oil seal means the nut should be marked prior to removal and returned to that position - plus a gnat's wotsit, so the pinion bearing preload limit isn't exceeded.

I suggest you discover the type of axle you have before you begin work.

I have a 99 chevy silverado with the 8.6 3.73 rear end. Is the torque specs for the rear yoke 270 ft lbs like the gmc Sierra

If you have an 8.6" ring you should have a 10 bolt axel. With this axel you don't torque the pinion nut. This style axel has a crush collar. Down below I forwarded the preload torque specs. If you do have a 12 bolt axel, the ring gear does get torqued but the ring gear will not be 8.6" Please write back if you need anything thing else. TORQUE SPECS FOR FRONT SPINDLE NUTS ON 05 PETERBILT STEERING AXLE

steering wheel bearing adjustment should be to a no end play no preload situation with adjustment to get the lock pin in the nut to the preload side
if there is an end play in the bearings , that allows for wheel wobble problems , but more importantly the inner oil seal cannot seal on the stub and so the bearing oil will leak out into the brakes
If your front axle uses a system of double nuts with a soft washer as a lock tab
adjust the inner nut to a no preload ,/no end float condition and then when the outer nut is done up tight that will move the inner nut onto the inside of the tread and that will be preload enough
regardless of the truck make , it will have a dayton or eaton from axle so the specifications can be found in those manufacturers manuals

I just replaced the rotors on my GMC Sierra 3500HD 4x4 duelly. I am picking up a sound on the driver side rear axle bearings. Not sure if I over tightened or not (lock nut). I wasn't sure. Does an

My info says, for 10.5--11.5--12.5 ring gear
tighten nut 52 ft lbs, loosen nut, then finger tight, If you need to loosen just a bit to line up key-way, that's fine. I don't know the socket size, good luck. It's always best to verify specs. I can only post what my database showed?

The differntial has to much back lash. clunking noise starting and stopping.

Ring and Pinion may need replacing. Also check preload on the pinion bearings. Nut on end yoke may be loose. Sometimes the axle gears will make a clunking noise if worn out.Check out drive shaft ujoints, May have to remove ring gear and pinion to check for wear.

Need detailed manual or assistance in replacing left rear axle seal and bearing on 2005 GMC Sierra pickup with 5.3L engine and a 324 rear end

You'll need to remove the rear end cover, remove the pin in the center pumpkin, push axle toward the center of vehicle and remove the axle clip, pull out axle. You may need a bearing puller to remove bearing.

I need to remove the brake drum on a 1976 gmc sierra 25

Soak it with generous amounts penetrating oil around the lugs and let it sit for a while and soak it again and hit it with a bigger hammer. There arent any hidden bolts they are just stubborn sometimes (most of the time).
