Did you check for battery voltage to the coils ? Check for control from the PCM - engine computer . You probably should take it to a qualified repair shop, if you don't know how to test electronics an electrical circuits

I have a question regarding my 98 528i , it will crank once but not start then I retry it won't crank but I can hear the fuel pump humming , I have to ...
It is typical problem and one of your most expert can diagnose it.That's why you should take it to a qualified repair shop . Sounds like you don't have any electrical trouble shooting skills . Short is in the wiring somewhere going back to the fuel pump . Not in the fuse box.
Turns out it was the ignition switch (Various lights and radio)and clock spring (air bag light). Both were simple replacements with common hand tools. Simply go to youTube and watch any of the number of videos. Clock spring took me 20 minutes to replace. The ignition switch 45 minutes. Just remember to unhook your battery before you begin.
With the key in the ignition but in the off postion press and hold your odometer trip button in then turn your key to the first postion hold the trip button in for 5 seconds the display will read oil service or inspection then it will say reset release the button and then press it again untill the reset starts to flash then release and press the button briefly to reset
The anti-theft system has nothing to do with spark . When it won't start check for B+ voltage at the ignition module . pin P a pink wire . Check pin K for a good ground . Check the 18X & 3X crank sensor signals to the PCM . It's good you have a snap on scan tool an can check sensor data , but to check cam an crank signal's you really need a scope ! Does your snap on tool have a lab scope ( oscilloscope ) Do you know what this is ? How to test crank sensor on GM 3800 engine 3x and 18x signals
Do you have access to wiring diagrams ? Check electrical distribution in an out of the ignition switch .Free wiring diagrams here http://www.bbbind.com/free_tsb.html Enter vehicle info Year , make , model and engine size . Under system click on electrical distribution , then under subsystem click on power distribution . Click the search button , then the blue link ! I wouldn't think the ignition switch being the problem but you never know without testing ! Do you know how to do automotive electrical testing with a DVOM - digital volt ohm meter ? Using a wiring diagram to pin point areas for testing ? Electric Testing Techniques You Need to Know
TSB'S that GM may have on this car. For what ?
There was a recall related to this a few years ago. I know because my engine began shutting off on the interstate and other driving situations. You may be able to search for the recall or just take it in to a Honda dealership and tell them that you received a recall notice related to your ignition switch a while back and your car has been stalling out while driving. I believe a replacement of the ignition switch will fix your problem. I haven't had any problems since. The dealership shouldn't charge you anything for the repair.
