These cars do not have head gasket problems you need to remove the sparkplugs to get the coolant out and replace the black upper intake manifold as they will leak coolant into the combustion chamber. Common problem.

If the light is on the engine computer will have a trouble code or codes, which may help you towards solving the problem. Have the computer scanned for the codes. Go from there. Good luck.

My buick park ave ultra ran hot til the point that it shut off and wont start.someone told me it could be my head gasket

Never have seen a bad head gasket on a 3800. Your problem could be the upper intake manifold had gone bad and leaked all of the coolant into the combustion chamber. If you run any engine too hot, you will need to replace the engine as excessive heat will warp cylinder bores, heads , valves etc. Seek a good used engine and never drive a overheated engine unless you can afford a replacement engine.

If you smell antifreeze in the vehicle it is most likely your heater core that is leaking.Look under the dash on the passenger side to see if there is any antifreeze on the botom of the heater box or under the carpet.

Need to replace the oil pump on a 95 park avenue

You shouldn't have to for head gaskets, makes it easier but not necessary.
For oil pan, you may have too. Depending on how much room there is between pan and crossmember and if pan is in tranny. Some cars the oil pan is 1/4" behind tranny but don't think that is the deal on your car.
