My ABS light (orange) is staying on - 1995 Geo Prism
Your abs light is permanent. Most people don't bother to fix this, it is expensive, and your car is getting old. It means that the anti lock brake system has failed and needs repair. But your brakes still work fine, just don't have anti lock. So I'm not saying tape over the light on the dash, but.
I have a 94 GEO PRISM, LSI.
When the ABS light came on, my car wouldn't run worth a toot! I had all of the maintenance done that can be done. Now, when the light comes on, it stays on and the car won't run! No one has a computer that will run a check on the ABS. I am pulling my hair out!!! I have turned the car off and restarted, No help. The mechanics are dumbfounded! They say the ABS should not cause the car not to run. Well...it DOES! If I get lucky and the ABS light does NOT come on when I start the car, it runs like a top. But...if that light comes on while I am driving, the car quits running. HELP!!!!!
That is not supposed to happen, I have never heard of that before, gotta be a short in there somewhere sending a false signal to the computer. I would take the bulb out of the dash so that the circuit can not be completed when the light comes on. Gotta try something. I took the bulb out of my dash, just so I wouldn't have to look at it forever. It never skipped a beat. If you can find another brain box, junk yard or borrow one, try it , see if it does anything. Hope this helps.
Thanks! I took the car to a good mechanic who thinks the distributer needs replaced. He drove the car to see how it acts. It drives like a distributer problem. He suspects that it is causing the ABS problem. Sound reasonable?
Yes it could, I know the voltage regulator can act up and cause the dash board to go crazy, But doing it with the abs light on, I have no idea. As far as the dist going bad and running ragged, If it has points, they can be out .001" and it not run right.Glad you found somebody to check it out.
