This has to do with the timing belt, the dealer just recently informed me that the belt needed to be adjusted. Not because of the mileage (only has 46k), but due to the time that has passed...8 years.
Last time I worked on a car we didn't have a adjuster for a timing belt, it was either good or it wasn't.
Anybody out here know something I don't?
If the belt has stretched ,then the belt needs to be replaced, not adjusted, never heard of that, witch it can be done, but if it stretched,it can break, then the valves will be bent from hitting the pistons, and a lot of money envolved.
Hi well this does sound strange, i myself have not heard of a modern belt needing to be adjusted, as they have automatic adjusting pulleys, which as you say either work or don't, i know some vehicles have an alignment on the tensioner pulley, but that shouldn't have an effect on the actual tension of the belt, i might be barking up the wrong tree here, i know a long time back, fords used to have a tensioner that could be tightened as the belt stretched, to this was only on the serpentine belt and not the timing belt, i think they are wrong..my opinion..hope this helps
