Humming from tires while driving - 2001 Buick Century

  • Anonymous Feb 21, 2010

At this point, I believe my possible problems are either a wheel bearing or a torn inner cv boot. I found a large amount of grease built up in that area. Going to take it to a shop for diagnosis.

Loud humming noise coming from the rear/tires? of 07 pt cruiser?

Rub your hand over the tread and try and feel for cupping or uneven tread patterns. This will create alot of road noise. If not, have your wheel bearings checked.

Could it be a rear wheel bearing? Also check the condition of the tires, severe cupping can make a heck of a noise.

most likely if its a hum it could be tires , if its a roar it could be the drive train

support the vehicle on jack stands , start the engine , put in drive and let it idle, if noise is gone ...its the tires if not check the drive train ...start with fluid levels

Did you try rotating the tires maybe front to back to see if noise disappears or moves with the tire? Otherwise maybe a wheel bearing.
