I have a 96 sunfire and everytime it rains or gets wet the car jerks and hesitate while tryning to give it gas and also while trying to start it, once it no longer raining or has dried out it drives fine. thanks anyone!

replace the spark plug wires

check spark plug wires and coils for moistore put some lube on the coil wires check for spark after it wont start if itll crank but not start its 1 of 2 thinks no spark or no fuel usally when the coils get too wet they wont allow spark to come through or will cause it to arc

Try turning the key to the on position three times, then leave it on the third time and wait about fifteen minutes for the security light to stop flashing. then turn the key off and try to start it.

Gas leak & tank would be my top priority. Try some ignition spray from autoparts store to get you by for now, as far as wires etc go, but get that fuel leak problem fixed first.

Unfortunatley, there are many problems with this model. "google" Cougar and youwill find many unhappy people. Open windows will get the inside of the car wet, but will not affect the gas. It sounds like a bad tranny, but try some drygas first.

probably just your fuel filter. if that doesn't do it , get back to me.

The jerking and shuddering at 45-50 mph seems like it could be a transmission/torque converter problem. Check your transmission fluid. Make sure it is at the right level, and that it is not dark or burnt. It should be a bright red or pink.
