Where is the thermostat on a 2002 isuzu rodeo v6?
The thermostat is located at the end of the top radiator hose on engine.
on some I say some its underneath the intake and it calls for 5.25 hours to replace it unbelieveable
there are worse V6.
some need whole front of engine removed
and timing chains just to put in a new water pump. check out the labor on that.?
Pulling the intake is not that hard.
but you need a gasket set first
buy that and it's a 1 day job, Saturday.
and I bet i can beat 5 hours.
if prepaired, before hand.
with my new "STANT" thermostat and the gaskets.
no failsafe stat allowed.
when i was young, id have fixed this.
before midnight off work 5pm'.
TV off, easy, as most things are like that.
one could move the stat.
they sell inline racing thermostats.
a housing and stat, and move it to mid hose.

there are ways to cure many problems.
I would say the key factor here is wide open throttle up a tall hill, with max load trailer, can the stat keep up? (modified)
GPM rates.

Underneath the intake on some models
Testimonial: "Thanks Kelly! I posted this question over six years ago but maybe someone else will happen upon this and find your reply. You are correct it is under the intake manifold!!! I, like Steve, expected it to be at the top of the radiator hose...thats where I have always found them on every car I have ever owned but when I went to change it on this Isuzu it wasn't there it was indeed under the intake. This is a horrible design! Thermostats go out...they just do...and placing it under the intake makes what should be a $15/10 minute fix into a $200/hour long job!!! You have to buy the thermostat, new intake gaskets, etc. By the way I have had to do this twice since posting this question...$$$!"
The VIN codes (8th digit) yours is CODE W , i bet.
8th digit vin clodes, common, all Rodeo;s
W= 6vd1w (4 cams) DOHC (w = wide heads)
X= 3.5L 6ve1 , 4 cams DOHC , a stroked 3.2L
E = 2.6L I-4
V= 3.2L 6vd1 (2 cam, SOHC)
Z = 3.1L GM engine. (pre 1993) V6
all DOHC are buried, STAT
under here.
for other readers with non W/X engines it's not buried.
Many of these cars had 3 engines choices day one. (USA)
world wide had 13. engines. but this is USA forum.
the reasons is simple, the new wide head DOHC engines, must have
a new huge plenum induction, intake system. (lots more air , lots more HP) (laws of physics + EFI reasons)
But they were not going to redesign the block just for that.
And yes this does stink, (oink oink)
All this ended in usa in 2004, so is moot now. gone forever.
Do not use "FAIL SAFE" thermostats here.
use NORMAL OEM class. 170F OE class. No magic tricks!
or sales gimmicks.
If you overheat engine, a tad it latches open this ILLEGGGAL stat (means non OEM , non OE design)
and you get to DO ALL OVER< from scratch.

Thanks Frogman1969, but after another hour looking I found that it is under the intake manifold. I have changed many thermostats in my time but have never seen this before. I had to remove the fuel injection assembly and the intake manifold to change a $20 thermostat!!! Appallingly some really smart guy in 1998 felt that by taking a 15 min $20 job and turning it into a 4 hour job would be a design improvement! I said it before and I will say it now, how this guy got a Engineer diploma yet alone a job is beyond me! Also note that the Haynes manual doe's not include this information!!!
what size bolts for a torque converter on a 2002 Isuzu Rodeo
i have a 2002 rodeo it overheats some times what can it be
Thermostat on a 2002 is rodeo is located underneath the intake and calls for six hours of labor to replace it I know this because I own one and I just had that done
You're lucky that you did it yourself I had to pay $350 for it because well I'm not a mechanic
