I am having a similar problem, but there is no check engine light. It seems that mine dies at the light or running, if the rpm's drop. I am wondering if the Idle air control valve is bad or possibly the ERG valve?

Look for a vacuum leak. Also check any air lines going to the transmission.
Be sure no air hoses under the dash are broken.
Last for this try - be sure the fuel filter is good. If you do not remember when the last time the fuel filter was replaced - replace it and check the air filter too. To test - remove the air filter before changing the fuel filter and see if there is a noticeable change in the way the car runs.

One of the few problems that doesn't 'code' is - cam lobes - check your compression might be low due to lack of intake timing and or exhaust timing that is tossed off by lack of lift and or duration.

Hi I have a 1991 Olds Cutlass Supreme, with a 3.1 liter engine. My problem is when the car warms at stops it runs rough. Sometimes shuts off. Sometimes when crusing at speeds 30-50 the car sort of jerks...

My 3.4 liter 91 Cutlass Supreme has similar problem when warm the engine misses (car jerks). But its fine at idle and without any accelerator pressure. The SERVICE ENGINE light also comes on intermittantly. I am going to test the ignition coils.

Did you try checking or replacing the coolant sensor? I think you should replace it along with the thermostat. Are there any problems like sputtering or any unusual noises or symptoms? Smoke, anything?

I had an oldsmodbile that did the same thing and it was a vacuum hose problem. You need to check all your vacuum hoses for leaks and the connections.
