I have a 2004 GMC Sierra 2500 HD. The drivers side mirror was broken, (Glass only), clipped by another vehicle while parked, and I want to replace only the glass part. It has the internal LED turn signal, and the heater and dimmer but all those connectors are easy to unplug. Looks like the glass part snaps on and off the plastic ring parts in the mirror housing. Is this the case? If I order a replacement glass does it just snap on to the ring in the mirror housing? The ring is connected to the tilt motors and they appear to be working ok. The mirror folded when it was clipped and only suffered breakage to the glass.
You should be able to replace the glass, but I believe it is glued in place. You should be able to tell as you remove the old pieces. It is a special white glue.
I was able to get a great price for the whole mirror on ebay. even the ones with signals and heated.
Hope this helps
I don't think you can buy the glass with the backing. I have not seen it though there is more I don't know than know. I have replace the insert from a used one before. You have to be careful when you remove the one you are going to use to pull with a steady pressure and ease it out of the ball. I have not replace your specific one, but I would look to just replace the mirror itself.

Sorry I wasn't specific enough.
The class has a plastic backing on it. that backing has a plastic ring and notches that appear to match a ring and notches in the mirror housing. When I said I wanted to replace the glass only, I meant buying the glass with the plastic backing already on. I though it would be less expensige to buy the glass and backing plate than to buy the whole mirror assembly with motors. I am just trying to determine if I buy the glas and backing plate, does the plate simply snap on or is it mor complicated to replace. Agree there are mirrors on Ebay, but many are Tiawan knock offs. Thanks for help.
