I checked the relays and fuses, all seem to be ok.

  • Anonymous Jan 11, 2010

yes a'm sure the fuel system is ok. the plugs are recieving enough fuel. voltage reaches the coil, but doesn't go to the plugs. I have replaced the cap and rotor. Wires are ok.

  • Anonymous Jan 15, 2010

thanks, yes all the plugs and wires are new, the rotor is turning,so the timing belt is ok. I also checked the compression in each cylinder, all that is ok. I am leaning towards that the computer brain is bad, what do you think?

Check the ignition relay and all the main relays on the battery.

I meant fuses at the battery

Are you sure the issue is no spark and that you have adequate fuel pressure and the injectors are firing?

  • Anonymous Jan 12, 2010

First you should double check that each plug and coil wire is "clicked" in.

Here's how the ignition system works.
You turn the key, the coil is powered, the coil in turn powers the distributor cap, as the engine rotates the rotor is turned, which powers the wires and the plugs.

So if you have power to the coil, just replaced the cap and rotor, good wires, the plugs could be bad, but I doubt that they would all go out at the same time.

That being said, the timing belt must have snapped, as this is what makes the rotor turn to fire each plug.

Here is one way to verify if the belt snapped. Remove the distributor cap, and push aside clear from any moving part. With the cap removed crank the engine over and watch the rotor, if the rotor doesn't rotate, then your timing belt has snapped. Or you can remove the timing cover.

How do I test the igniter on 1996 corolla 4afe motor

Start the car and lift up the coil inserts from the spark plugs one by one. By doing so if the engine does not stall that cylinder has a problem. The problem may be due to the defective igniter, fuel injector, high tension cord, weak cylinder compression or a distributor assembly. Some models have distributor less ignition system.
To check the igniter check the 12V at the input lead which is entering the igniter amplifier in the distributor and the output voltage at the spark plug wire. If it is so the igniter is ok. If it is not starting at all or is giving intermittent problem, replace the distributor assembly.

After replacing my distributor on my 89 toyota corolla it wont start

It is possible that if you replaced the distributor, you simply have the plugs in the wrong firing order. Another possibility is that you need new spark plugs, wires, plugs, distributor rotor and possibly a distributor cap. A long shot problem is the ignition coil, but since you have spark in one plug, it is unlikely.

Missing problem

Missing problem requires to check the following systems and components:
1. Fuel system. (Fuel pump, fuel filter, fuel injectors).
2. Ignition system. (Spark plugs, spark plug cords or wires, ignition coil, distributor (cars with distributor type ignition system, rotor, distributor cap, ignition amplifier), Coils On Plugs (COP) and correct sequence of the spark plug wires and or Igniter connectors.
3. Air leakage in the intake manifold.
4. Detached vacuum hose.
5. PCV Valve.
6. Servo brake booster pipe or diaphragm.
7. Valve clearance.
8. Cylinder compression.
9. Contaminated fuel.
10 . ECM.

93 jeep cherokee , iv got spark at the coil but not at the plug just replced cap, roter, wires, but still notheing got any ides ?

Coil may be producing low voltage (KVs) to where it makes enough energy to snap out of the coil tower but then supressed as it travels down the high tension leads finally to the plug. Incidentally spark plug leads should have about 10k ohms of resistance per foot.I good coil will jump spark at least a half inch if you pull the wire off the cap and produce this much air gap

Car just stopped running. Lost power suddenly.

Find an inductive pickup indicator for spark. Place on distributor cap to see if spark is at coil internal tower. If no spark at internal tower, look at ignition module or pickup coil. Ignition modules are prone to failure on 626's. But if you have spark at tower but not at the wire end, then your rotor is gone.

1993 toyota corrola stalls.

I thing that the main problem turned out to be a bad ignition coil. On '93 Corollas, you can remove the ignition coil without removing the distributor. (You only need to remove the distributor cap and rotor.) you mention that u already replace couple of parts but i suggest to get the original part from Toyota spare part
