Depends.
If you buy the axle at a parts store the average price is $60. To have a shop do the repair and include the axle I would expect around $300 depending on where you live.

Check exhaust for leaks get a good tune up if you have not had one in a while your distributor cap and rotor button new plug wires new plugs if you are crafty you could do this your self the shop calls that a major tune up and charge any were between 200 to 300 dollars. Most people buy the parts and i do them labor only for 75 dollars. And the parts are around 70 dollars so that is half price. If you want look on craigslist and try to find someone on there they don't have to be a rocket scientist any shade tree mechanic can handle it.

yea id'e say for parts it probably $200, but labor should only be like another $100-$175= $300-$375 not $500. its probably some lazy shop guys or some weirdo with a wrench that wastes time for the extra buck.

your parts are probably expensive but it sounds high.I would get another opinion from someone else and try to find a friend that has had work done there before

Normally a full tuneup is about $300-$400 but because its a jag expect to pay a premium of about 50% so roughly $450-$600 depending on what you get done. You would save the most money if you could buy all the parts and find a shop to put them in for you but most these days will only put their parts in (they make money of thier parts and are more expensive then the auto parts store) A full tune up consist of timing adjust (if possible) air/fuel filter, PCV valve, spark plugs/wires, Distributer cap and rotor and a visiual inspection of all other engine componets/fluids and scanning the codes if any on the computer. Normally takes about 2-3 hours on the average vehicle but could be more for hard to access places in some vehicles. I would get several estimates and ask what all will be replaced in a full tune up before selecting a shop. The price difference can be $100's of dollars..
