1983 Mercury Marquis wont stay started

Disconnect battery for about 5-10 minutes then see if your code has cleared. If you have access to a code reader that would be your best bet.

You need to have the dealer look at this, if you fool around with it you can void your warranty. Toyota looks for any legal excuse to void the warranty.

Have you tried a fuel filter ??

This could be due to a stretched accelerator cable

I had a 1983 Mercury Grand Marquis that had a leaky compressor that I changed. It worked for several years after that.

Check in the trunk and push the button on the Inertia switch. It should be on the drivers side of the trunk.

If this does not help, get a fuel filter and change it. If you can possibly get a fuel sample from the disconnected gas lines do it.

The new 10% gasohol will separate if it stands a few months. You may need to add fresh gas with a drying chemical like "Heet".

common problem in those cars is fuel pump relay , probably bad .

On this model, it would either be on drivers floor left side or in the trunk

Ok, As for the Squeeking--Have you Checked the Brake Pads on this side? It will either Be the Brake Pads or The Wheel Bearings. The Cold Start up can be Cured by Getting a Can of B12 Chemtool from Wal-Mart Automotive and Running 1 Can of it into a Full tank of Gas. It has Always worked for me in the Past.
