Engine starts to make a winding noise at about 20 MPH and the noise increases the faster you go. Also, when you slow down, the noise starts going down, as your speed decreases.

Try getting on an open road, get up to about 45 MPH or where ever the noise is loudest. Put the car in neutral and turn the engine off. You can roll in a straight line for a long time. Make sure nodody is around you. If the sound stops when the engine is off, then the noise is coming from the motor. If the sound is still there, its got to be coming from the tires. Id guess a wheel bearing.
Could be Transmission related. Have you checked the Fluid level?
Also have you changed anything recently like new tires? Its not uncommon for some tires like (Hankook for example) to make road noise?
lets break this down ,there is a little sensor on the air intake known as the air filter [i hope you have changed] it detects the amount of air flowing into the engine.it can be faulty.2if your weather is good for a long time little rubber joints get dried up and like to make noises but sometimes its good to get them checked out, adrian
Look for something caught in the drive shaft - also check rear bearings and drive shaft bearings.
Sounds like you need to have a good oil change and have the mechanic give the underside a good going over. They will usually do this free as part of the oil change.
Also - check for a bad tire - sometimes the problem won't show sitting if the tire is separating on the inside and on the inside part of the tire. I suspect a faulty tire that isn't separating until you get to speed.
ok the lifters are making noise, make sure you are using the right oil for your temp zone. also add some lucas oil to your engine oil, it will quiet down the engine.
You probably have a bad wheel bearing or bad tire on left front. when making right turn left front wheel wil spin faster than right making noise louder.
