I have a 1989 Ford F250 4x4 with 7.3L Diesel. The bat and break light came on, first bat, then break. I let the truck sit for a day and the batteries were dead. I hooked up my charger, waited for a few minutes, and then tried to start the truck. White smoke came out of the voltage regulator. Was this caused by a bad voltage regulator, alternator, or batteries, or a combination?
Thanks
Your alt and breaks are belt driven check your belts
Thats a guessing game, but first, if the battery light was on, that means no alternator output. So recharge the batteries and be sure they are good, Then replace the alternator. If the batteries and the alt are good, and the battery light is off, then all should be OK.
