What is the timing specification for a 2000 toyota avalon at idle speed

Has do be done with a scanner. Locksmith or dealer.

If you have not run the fault codes then that would be a good place to start. It will save you money as it will pinpoint the failing sensor.

Maybe the Throttle Pedal Actuator needs a clean. If dirty the flap is not opening as it should.

have the idle speed sensor checked as well as the air temp sensor. Possible showing up as errors in the code

make sure if noise come from vvt actuator, check the oil quality

if you tap the EGR valve and you get a response replace it
if you tap anything else and get a response replace it

check idle air controll motor

Sounds like the IAC valve is carboned up. This valve can usually be removed easily with 1 connector and 2 bolts. It is how the engine controls the idle speed. Many times a can of carb cleaner and working the piston back and forth on it will free it up for many more miles.
Turn on the a/c at idle. does the idle speed change?

Avalons are prone to the the throttle body and Idle control valve getting gunked up over time. I took mine off, spent about 45 minutes cleaning it well with carb cleaner and q tips, and reinstalled. I haven't had the problem since. It is relatively easy, the hard part is not stripping the screws. Everthing is righ on top of the engine, not a hard repair. Mine did not have the smoke issue, however, it would start but would die as soon as you let off the gas.
