I have a 1998 Buick LeSabre when I start the car it sounds like the car is still trying to start. When I but it into reverse or drive it will stop. I turned the key with out starting the car and ran through the gears then it started without any problem. What could the problem be? could it be the neutral safety switch? If so where is it located and is it a simple project to fix? Thanks Bill

The neutral switch is to prevent the starter from engaging if not in park or neutral - try just bumping the key switch without holding it - the key lock or ignition switch could be keeping power on starter or the starter solenoid could be keeping the starter engaged someone would have to be under the car listening or touching the starter to see this or measuring voltage on solenoid wire

98 BUICK LESABRE - CAR WILL CUT OFF WHILE DRIVING, BUT WILL START THE NEXT DAY. YOU CAN STOP FOR A FEW MINUTES AND THEN IT WILL NOT START WITH THE MOTOR TURNING OVER. SEEMS LIKE A FUEL PROBLEM.

This sounds to me like an anti theft system failure. When your key does not communicate well will the TDM (theft deterrent module) in your vehicle, the car thinks it is being stolen and trys to prevent this by shutting down. It all stems from that little black chip in your key. Check out this link for symptoms of a security failure, info on how the system works, and some DO IT YOURSELF solutions to never worry about this again. http://vatspasslockpasskeysecurityhelp.yolasite.com/
