Jeep Cherokee starting issue

I am having a problem where my 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee will not start consistently. When I turn the key, sometimes it starts, sometimes there is just a clicking noise. It wouldn't start at all one day. Two days later it started right up. Starter? Battery? Alternator? Other?

On an intermittent start problem like this you may be having a starter solenoid issue or your wire on the starter from the key switch may be loose. Or you may have a corroded battery cable or the safety neutral switch may be going bad. Is it a automatic? If it were it would be the clutch safety switch going out. So do the simple things first. Clean cables like the first guy said if that does not fix it locate the starter and if you have jumper cables the next time it does it put the positive lead of the jumper cable on the Positive battery terminal and the other touch to the starter wire with the key in the run position where the big wire on the starter is, if you here it spin it means the starter motor is ok if it don't it is bad or the connection on the starter is loose. Also a bad battery cable could cause this from the battery to the starter next put a small wire into the end of the positive jumper cable and touch the S terminal on the starter if you here a solid clung it means the solenoid is good. So check the connections on the starter and tighten the starter bolts as they may have worked loose and don't have a good ground. So if you want more as stance just post on my question and I will hell p more and if this is more informative please rate

It could be the starter solenoid, Ignition switch or the battery. Have the battery & alternator checked first. I believe Auto Zone will do it for free. They might even do a started draw test for free! If the battery and alternator are ok, Have the starter checked. It's much easier than checking or changing the ignition switch. Get a service manuel for the car it will be helpful. Good Luck!!

Check the battery terminals on the battery. These could be nasty and keeping the connection bad. When cleaning the cables make the battery post shiney, and the cable terminals shiney when you clean them.Clean the top of battery with soap and water. The acid on top of the battery can conduct electricity and cause the battery to drain down.If the battery cable and battery post are not shiney, they are not making the connection very good.+After you clean the post and the terminal ends, and the batery top, replace them back on the batery real good and tight ,then purchase ignition sealer at the auto parts store(NAPA carries this)and soak the battery terminals really good, and spray the top of the battery with the spray ignition sealer like you are painting it.This will keep the battery in good shape for a long time.

First thing to try is clean the battery cable connections, and make sure they are tight. Sometimes, if they are a little bit loose, or dirty, it won't make good enough connection to turn the starter. If that doesn't solve it, the connection to the starter, or ground to the engine may be loose or dirty, or your ignition switch may need to be replaced. Good luck. I hope this helps you.

There is an issue with your transponder key. Call a locksmith and have them reprogram the key you have into the computer. I do this all the time. Depending on who changed out the ignition they may have don't damage to the reader that surrounds the ignition. Sometimes they don't put it back in the right spot and it won't read the key.

I've got to be reading this incorrectly...You are driving, the engine turns off...you pull off the road? And then without touching the key the engine re-starts, but you haven't touched the key? Or, sometimes you need to sit there for a few minutes and then turn the key to start it?

Do you have an alarm on this? If you do, that is most likely the problem. There seems to be a problem with the alarms. You may want to have a new key made just in case. Sometimes the keys are magnetically charged and after time, it wears off.

1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee stalling and not starting

Since you've replaced many of the usual suspects (fuel pump etc.) you might want to look into testing or simply replacing the crankshaft position sensor or the camshaft position sensor. If you intermittently lose one the these signals it would cause the problem you describe.
