My 1990 Lumina with 3.1 won't restart until the engine cools. Car runs great but from time to time it won't restart after being run until it cools down. Any hints on what the problem coul be?

Hi, the problem your having is going to be with the oxygen sensor this only starts working when the car is at running temp so this is when you start getting problems but when the engine and exhaust are cold you will have no problems starting the car.
The oxygen sensor (lambda sensor as its proper name) runs from the exhaust either before or after the catalitic converter if your car has a cat it goes from the exhaust and the other end plugs into an electric connector these are not to expensive to replace and can be done yourself if you have a good mechanical mind to know what your looking for.

Let me know if you need further assistance ok

1997 chey lumina runs fine until motor warm-up then shut off and won't start until motor cool off

Try getting your transmission solenoid replaced. After I got mine replaced it ran fine after that. That's the exact same thing my Lumina was doing.

91 Lumina won't stay running; see lots of same question for same car but no problem solvers....Please help.

On electronic fuel injection pumping an pumping an pumping the gas pedal does nothing without the engine running ! Pushing the gas pedal to the floor will cause the PCM - engine computer to go into clear flood mode .

You have some very interesting ideas here , but not really how it works or is !

The vehicle will go into closed loop fuel control when the engine coolant temp reaches a definded temp an the O2 sensor get hot.

She would run for a couple minutes and die which is open loop when running, closed loop is when the sensors kick and it would die. Pulled spark plugs, they were black meaning no spark. Can only be 2

Black spark plugs indecate a rich condition , over fueled , wet spark plugs indecate no spark .

My timing belt and water pump for Honda Accord 1990 was replaced and used the car for 2- 3 weeks. After driving about 15 minutes, entering the freeway, my car slowed down but the engine still running....

If you have never changed that distributor on your 1990 Accord, I would suspect it. Check for spark while cranking. The sensors inside the distributor would usually heat up, after 15-20 minutes of running, and would then die out, until the car is cooled off for a while. Look into that distributor.

I have a 1990 chevy lumina runs great until you turn it off and restart it acts like its not getting gas

Hard starting? Try holding accelerator to floor until it catches then let off immediately, so as not to over-rev engine. (As it was done for a flooded situation with carburetor.) You may be getting leak-by on one or more injectors, causing it to act like a flooded situation.

Lumina still won't start until engine cools down for an hour

The coil pak is probably bad.
you need three things to start air fuel and spark. You turn it oven and it wont run,if the fuel is the problem try this.spray a little 2+2 carb cleaner down the throttl body if it runs ,fuel is the problem.
It can also be as simple as the ECM the computer could be going bad.

1997 chevy lumina get warm and then stalls will not restart

Hi, It sounds like you have a bad temperature sensor. Which is a plug like sensor that screws in. You will find it on or near where you coolant hoses connect to your engine. usually near the upper hose. Which would be screwed into the neck that connects to the head or on the head itself. Also check your radiator it could be plugged into the back (facing the fan). also if you have not changed your thermostat it wouldn't be a bad idea to do that also. which you will find under the neck of where the hose connects to your engine. Usually 2 or three bolts. Make sure your engine is cooled down when doing this service to your engine because of built up pressure in the coolant system which will cause burns or worse. I hope this helped you out. It would be greatly appreciated if you could rate my answer, thanks MIKE-

2000 chevy lumina. Is fan supposed to come on when car started

no fan comes on when engine cold start up .but it will come on when you turn on air conditioning or defrost on .if engine idling a while when temp get 190 degree the fan will kick on.if over heating you got air in system .wait until cools check coolant add more .crank engine let it idle few. minutes when start warming up turn off engine wait a while before removing radiator cap so you wont get scald.add more coolant .crank it again starting warming up turn off engine wait a while .add coolant .keep doing this procedure until your coolant stop dropping off .if you do this more than 6 times you got a leak some where.check crank level for signs.if oil level higher than normal.if everything looking good.when engine cool make sure add coolant to over flow jug cold level mark.
