Does a2000 Chevrolet cavalier 2.4 have an interference motor

It has a chain if it is the 2.0L or 2.4L four cyl . And they are not interference. The V6 model is also chain drive and is not interference.

I am pretty sure it is an interference engine.

Yes its a big fault if the timing belt breaks whilst the engine is running you could need a few new valves and possibly a new piston or two as well

One of the bolts that you removed from your timing cover is the bolt that holds your tensioner. My guess is that when you removed the bolt you lost timing chain adustment. Sorry to tell you the bad news but the cover has to come back off. Hopfully that motor is not a interference motor because if it is you have bent valves. Good luck.

take out the door padding
unscrew the glass from the panel
take the glass support kit out
remove the motor and replace it.
NOTE : MAKE SURE THE WIRE DOESNT TRIP OFF THE PULLY.

I think it bends valves. It is real easy to check. Have your mechanic pressurize the cylinders, when the valves should be closed.

As long as you can get it bolted to the engine somewhere it should work OK. I hope thats all the difference between those 2 engines. ?????

Should be a non interference motor so no.

if the roof is stucked up pull at the rubber lining around the inside of the sunroof (the one that seems like its just for looks) near the control button. then pull down on the inner roof cover and you'll see the back of the control button. there is an electrical connection there. see if it has come apart,. also check out if the motor of the roof control is spinning.if it is not spinning then replace the motor to make it work.
