SOURCE: blown head gasket. what is the cause

Running hot will cause head gasget to fail. Or if head is not torqued properly, or a faulty head gasget. Pressure in cooling system means, blown head gasget or cracked head.

SOURCE: coolant leak

More than likely it is coming from the intake manifold. You can use a pressure tester that hooks to the radiator and use a flashlight and mirror to get a better look at where it is coming from.

check oil colour(milky indicates water)check radiator, can you smell fumes in there, get it tested with and exhaust gas annaliser, which picks up engine fumes in the radiator if you cant tell for sure,it does sound like you have a head gasket problem, you would need to do both heads not 1

You replaced the head gasket but did you get the head or heads checked for cracks or check the block for warpage?

What are signs and symptoms of a blown head?

white smoke out the tailpipe and the smell of anti-freeze in the exhaust gas. an engine that over heats either only at highway speeds or town driving, when all other things like, rad cooling fan working properly, thermostat is working properly, no external coolant leaks. the spark plugs may show signs of coolant on them. just some things that are indicators.

cracked block. once it heats up the crack gets bigger and the oil gets thinner which makes more oil burn. run car without the oil cap on and see if lots of air/ oil comes out if so thats blow by and you need a new engine.

I have a 2006 chevy aveo and it runs hot when I run the air conditioner and the radiator tank is empty, when I put water in it, it makes a crackling noise and then when I try to give it gas to make it go...

Does the empty radiator have anything to do with the AC? OR is it always empty? You should fill the radiator and the tank when the engine is cool. Never take the radiator cap off a HOT engine. It can shoot hot steam and water all over you and cause serious burns. With the engine cool, take the radiator cap off and fill it with the proper coolant, not just water. The coolant instruction label should be on or near the radiator. Fill the radiator completely, You may have to finish it slowly because of air trapped in the system. You can run the engine a short time to assist in filling the radiator. When the engine is running, if a lot of air bubbles out it could have a blown head gasket. DO NOT ALLOW THE ENGINE RUN UNTIL IT GETS HOT. If there is air in the system the coolant will go down and you can continue to fill it. When it is completely full, shut off the engine, top off the radiator if necessary and put the cap on completely and tightly. Fill the coolant tank to the full mark with the same coolant as the radiator. Drive the car and see if it overheats. If it smokes and has water coming out the exhaust, it probably has a blown head gasket. After it cools, check the radiator again. If it is low or out of coolant, again - blown head gasket. A blown gasket can **** coolant into the combustion cylinder OR can blow exhaust back into the cooling system. It can also allow motor oil into the radiator. Look for oil when you are filling the radiator. Also check the engine oil, if it has coolant in it, it will be a thick gooey mixture. In either case you should have the car towed to a qualified mechanic for testing and repair. If none of these things are occurring, look for a leak in the coolant system. A bad hose, or a leaking water pump. A defective radiator cap or the cap is not on tight. Look for the easy things first. Good luck.

you probaly don't have a radiator cap, they're doing away with them, just the resevoir cap. If you have a blown head gasket or intake manifold gasket it would overheat all the time, not just when hte a/c is on. I might try another mechanic. have a pressure test done on the engine cooling system. this can tell you if you have any leaks. and yes if you get water in the oil it will turn grey after awhile. also watch to see if the oil is way over full on the stick. good luck

if it is the head gasket there will be coolant in the oil or oil in the coolant, I would check to make sure the electric fan is operating, could also be a stuck thermostat or clogged radiator (both of which are MUCH cheaper to check and repair than a head gasket change.

My heat stopped working my cars blowing smoke out of the muffler and my temperature gauge is past hot but the carrs engine isnt smoking

if theres smoke coming out of the exaust then the motor is smoking. sounds like you have a blown head gasket and it's low on water is why the heat isn't working.

If this smoke last for a long time or get worst as this vehicle get warmed up or when vehicle is hot. YOU HAVE A BAD HEAD GASKET TO SAY THE LEAST or may be blown/craked head. Check oil and coolant for mixture with a bad gasket oil and antifreeze should be mixing depending on how long its been since this happen. Check under oil cap for creamish white residue that a sure tell tale sign. Check for fan running constantly or vehicle over heating. Good luck contact if you need more help and thanks for using FIX YA.
