Have you checked for trouble codes? If not, do so by following the instructions below in the attached Video & The Link Below that explains the meaning of each code.

If if there's no check engine light then it's probably just something basic, I'd suggest checking your air filter to make sure it's not stopped up or severely restricting air flow, clean your throttle body and don't forget to change the fuel filter and do a general tune up every 30,000 miles or so. If these things haven't been done lately, you might want to try those first if you're in a position to right now. Idle Air Control Valves & Throttle Position Sensors can cause this too, a tps isn't always bad, sometimes they're out of adjustment which can be set with a multimeter or volt meter. Also, check thoroughly for Vaccum leaks- use the "carb cleaner" method, if you're not familiar with it a quick google search will let you know. Only do so with safety being priority #1 as with anything, protect yourself and especially your face, eyes, etc. Best of Luck, see the last picture below as well, let me know what you think if you don't mind, have a great day!

Most likely a crank sensor issue.

the connections near the front axle that activate the motor to engage the system aren't melted? That's a comon problem for that body style. If there good, sounds like it could be that motor itself. To figure out if it's you motor or transfercase, jack up the rear end, have a friend inside shift into 4 wheel drive, or try to, and put it in gear and apply some gas. If the front driveshaft is turning then it's something with the front end. If not, farther back in the system.

SOURCE: My problem is my 1990 GMC Sierra was running then

You need to do a fuel pressure test on it. You also need to test the injectors w/a noid light to see if you have pulse to the injectors.

May want to look at replacing the wiper circuit board. It is located on the firewall adjacent to the wiper motor and has a some what square black cover with 3 torx screws and wireing harness pluged into the side.We had a truck that every time you washed it the wipers would stay on until it dryed out.You can try removing it and spaying it down with contact cleaner just watch the brease on the two contact tips.Well hope this helps.

If all your other gauges work, more than likely you have a bad sending unit in the gas tank or bad ground to the sending unit.

Is this truck carbuerated or throttle-body injected? If carbuerated, I'd put in a new carb kit...and be sure to replace the accelerator pump. Ethanol in gas today wreaks all sorts of havoc with older vehicles because the rubber and plastic parts manufactured back then were not designed to deal with the problems caused by ethanol. After rebuilding your carb, buy a product called Seafoam and add it to your gas tank at the rate of 1oz per gallon of gas. It will partially offset the problems caused by ethanol.

My 1990 GMC sierra pu dies randomly while driving or even sitting. Seems to be more prevalant when raining but now does it all the time.

COULD BE BAD IGNITION COIL OR MODULE.IT COULD BE BAD FUEL INJECTOR OR INJECTORS.CLOGGED FUEL FILTER. A BAD DISTRIBUTOR CAP ROTOR + BAD PLUGS AND WIRES WILL CAUSE PROBLEMS AND BAD FUEL WITH WATER IN IT.
