Hi. Would you please write back and word your request differently and supply a photo of the broken plastic piece? I'm not sure what went wrong but the key cylinder should have slid into the lock housing the same exact way it came out. You should have carefully removed the lower and upper trim cover (behind the steering wheel). The battery would be disconnected before you turned the ignition key to the start position and then with a small punch or pick, depress the security lock "Release" button. Now the key cylinder would release and slide out and you would align the new cylinder and slide it back into place exactly how the old one was orientated. Please write back and be as detailed as you can. Tell me what happened. At this time I can only guess that the lock cylinder is not all the way in place. I hope this helps. If not I hope to hear from you soon. Good Luck.

How do I switch my broken ignition in my car to a flip switch ignition

Why don't you just buy a new ignition switch and put it back together the way it was originally designed instead of "rigging" something that will probably end up burning your car to the ground?

How to remove an ignition on a 1997 gmc sierra but without a key

The lock pin that's keeping you from removing the switch normally won't push up but some do, try that first. Next is to drill out the core of the lock cylinder without going past the edges of what's being replaced. You'll need some needle nose pliers to pull out the internal parts once you drill a large enough hole & you'll be able to turn the cylinder to where the pin will release & let you extract the remaing part.

good luck

How to replace ignition key in 1997 gmc sierra 2500,,tack and speedo don't work but all other gauges work

for the ignition key you have to take off the two plastic covers on the steering column. (three torx screws) remove the ignition switch and it is righ there. your speedometer has a direct cable into the transmission and should be a fairly easy repair

1997 GMC Sierra Ignition Switch Replacement

take off the cover on the top and bottom of the steering column just behind the wheel. pop the tilt lever out simply just by grabbing it and give it a good tug. then once you have the new switch and you get in there your going to need an inverted torx socket to remove the small bolts that hold the switch to the column. do not move the gear on the new switch make sure it lines up exactly as the old one did!!!!!!!!!!!!
