That sounds to me like you have a bad ignition key switch. for it to read the chip in the key the switch needs to be able to recognize it. Hope this helps getting you going again :o)

Possibly fuel filter is clogging.Replace it.Have fuel pressure checked first to make sure it's up to specs.

If you have better than average skills you sould be able to tackle it. You will have to remove 3 nuts from the top and 2 bolts on the bottom. Yo will also need a coil spring compressor that you can borrow from parts store (autozone). The most dangerous part is the spring coming lose but its fairly easy t do in your driveway with regular hand tools.

have scanned if light is on. it may be a bad or failing crank sensor. for the sensor controls timimg, it will stop engine while driving. have a good day!!

94 olds silhouette new fuel pump still won t run cannot hear fuel pump ?
Is it an 94 or a 2004 Silhouette.You should hear a fuel pump when turning on the key (anytime after the key has been off for about 10 seconds) or whenever there is oil pressure.
If there is no fuel pump sound or fuel pressure when the key is turned on (this is the prime cycle) then crank the engine for at least 10 to 15 seconds to get oil pressure as this is the 2nd source of power to the pump and what powers the pump when driving.
Still no pump running?
Check fuse /wiring/connections/including ground.
Lastly..... New fuel pumps don't always work just because they are new,

Car was running fine had AAA tech give me a jump but tech said a computer chip for the alarm system is missing and thats why car does not start?
You said the car was running fine?But then needed a jump start, If your key has a pellet type chip and it fell out then yes it will give no crank signal.Depending on the year,If it is a key that has a fob,that may need to be relearned,If you have the old style alarm where you put a chip in there so it can have a crank signal then yes that will not give a crank signal,

99 olds silhouette... changed plugs wires and coil packs and crank position sensor .... but the odd part is ... timing off ... with timing light when u crank over engine is outta time but the more you...
will try to help,are you sure the fuel pump comes on and runs through the whole cycle of turning key on for 10 seconds through at least 5 cycles? the timing light may be picking up the crankshaft positioning sensor signal, it's magnetic pulse. and then again you could be dealing with a bad timing chain or belt,most likely chain driven. am trying to help, but not sure unless i hear it onsite. at least this may point you to something. sorry at no charge, hope this helps and thank you for choosing fixya.com if no help please repost!!!1

does the temp gauge or light come on? is the car over heating? .... oh and a starter can test fine when its cold, but the heat soak from the engine and exhaust affect it's performance drastically. it sounds like you need a new starter.

The security light is on or flashing? Your key is the one you always have uned or is it different? The key has a black chip near the handle, Is it clean? The wires that it connectes to are right inside the lock is it clean and not buggered by the wrong key or other object? The wires that come off this connection break near the lock.( flex every time you turn the key) A scanner connected to the car will pick the problem. Rember that the car starts in neutral and park both but not in gear this switch on top of the tranny fails and sometimes it'll work in neutral. Jumper wire at starter makes it crank? with key on start. Crank and not start your back to the security system. Cars plenty old enought to fail

When you turn the key to start position that 2 or 3 times does starter click? or does it do nothing? If it clicks starter selanoid on starter is bad, If it don't click at all its ignition switch thats bad.
