Hi, would low system voltage cause an 02 Intrepid's solenoid to trip into Limp Mode? My battery was almost dead when it tripped and I am wondering if it caused the solenoid to trip.

There are some sensors on the transmission that tend to go bad. You may also need to check the wiring. Could be a computer problem. How many miles?

SOURCE: limp mode?

It may have a "loss of prime" code that usually follows a service of the fluid and filter. After you're sure the fluid is full at operating temperature, disconnect the battery for a few minutes and reconnect to see if the code resets. I hope this helps.

SOURCE: volvo xc70 in limp mode 7 fault codes recorded d5

Possible problem with the alternator not putting out enough voltage. I had the same problem with my 2002 XC70, putting in a new alternator fixed it. I used a local mechanic who I found on the car talk web-site. Low Cost Volvo parts can be purchased at FCP Groton.

SOURCE: LIMP MODE

to many reset of limp mode set hard no reset in star code system. needs flashed to clear codes and for new transmission. Transmission control module may have oil wicking to it making it send fault codes remove cloth tape and clean with spray cleaner. check turbo hoses, replace TURBO RESONATOR with after market TURBO RESONATOR . Turbo air leak trip limp mode's.

I was told my 08 dodge avenger was in"limp mode" ( doesn't excellerate as normal an won't do over 45) what do I need to do to repair this issue . thanks in advance.

Limp Mode is the result of an exceptional condition occurring. It provides the driver a very restricted driving mode to travel a limited distance,

One hopeful cause is that this has occurred when the car was first started. If it is then it is likely that the battery was weak and tripped the cars computer into the limp home mode. Some times the limp mode doesn't activate but a CK engine light comes on.

Make sure that the car is in a safe location. Make sure that the battery is charged. Remove the battery terminal for about a minute or two. Reinstall the battery connection. If the car starts normal and runs OK you can assume the battery voltage had dropped below an except-able level and tripped the limp mode. Replace the battery.

How to switch the safe mode off?

You will need to clear the codes in the module that tripped the limp mode. It could be in the ECM or the ECT. AutoZone will do it for free.

4l60e limp mode / low voltage to ******

You didn't say what year it is. GM made 4L60Es from 1993 to maybe 2001.Limp mode allows for a few conditions. You can manually downshift into second, but not first. If you put it in overdrive, you get third gear only, no fourth, no torque converter lockup. Reverse works. Manual 2nd, third, and reverse require no electrical input from the pcm. There's a small list of things that will trigger limp mode. LONG SYSTEM VOLTAGE HIGH, when voltage is greater than 16v for 109 minutes; SYSTEM VOLTAGE HIGH, when voltage is greater than 19.5v for 2 seconds, SYSTEM VOLTAGE LOW, when voltage is less than somewhere between 7.3v and 11.7 volts (temperature dependent) for 4 seconds, and 3-2 CONTROL SOLENOID CIRCUIT FAULT, which, dependent on year, is a discrepancy for four seconds pertaining to voltage at specific duty cycles, OR there is no continuity, etc. Basically, if 3-2 is shorted out or has an open circuit.
As long as your alternator isn't going berserk, you probably won't see the high voltage problem. Low voltage is a completely different story. Quite a few things run off of the same circuit as the transmission, like O2 sensor heat and MAF. It's also switched at the ignition switch, so by the time it makes it down to the transmission, it might be below threshold. Also, flaky ignition switches cause this problem fairly often. A kit exists to provide power to the trans through a relay instead of the switch. Also, there could be **** in the trans connector, or an internal wiring fault, or similar. The 3-2 downshift solenoid is only accessible if you drop the trans pan, but if you get a pcm pinout, you could check the relay's resistance with an ohmmeter without getting filthy. The resistance should be 9-14 ohms (pre-1996) or 20-31 ohms (1996- on). This problem is fixable without a scan tool, the scanner just makes it a hell of a lot easier.

Went on trip, drove a little over 500 miles to destination. When went from one freeway to another car seemed to go into a limp mode after slowing to bout 20- 25 mph. I reset by putting it in park turning...

PO456 is most times a gas cap or gasket,
to get an incorrect gear ratio the transmission has probably started to slip.

Change the fluid and filter first off in the transmission and use only atf+4 fluid and possibly the govenor pressure sensor, and change gas cap.

Hi, I have a Mercedes A170CDi Auto that has gone into limp-mode on the gearbox. I have had a diagnostics check done and it shows a P1841 Current fault code which is a Solenoid Valve Y3/7y2 3 shift fault....

The code is consistent with an electrical short within the shift motor solenoid. These solenoids open and close fluid passageways within the gearbox that cause clutches engage and disengage with the planetary gear system that make up an automatic gear box. Auto boxes are very involved pieces of machinery and best left to experts so I am afraid it needs a trip to the Mercedes dealership or a good auto transmission depot. It could be that the gear box can be easily renovated by fitting a new solenoid in which case an overhaul rather than replacement will be the cheaper option. Since you have the code for the fault I would phone around for repair quotes.

Transmission problems

I have a 02 dodge intrepid and it was getting stuck in 2nd gear. This is called "limp mode", designed to get you off the road . I had to replace the transmission control solonoid, and at the same time, had the tranny serviced. the tech also found a broken spring in the valve body. total cost was $600.

LIMP MODE

You will have to have the fault codes read and removed. If it is permanently in limp mode it may suggest another problem.
