I can't get my 2005 Dodge Durango to shift into third gear. I need help please.

You can only diagnose problems like yours with a pro grade scan tool computer as opposed to a generic 'code reader'. It may be the shift solenoid or a computer data issue. A 5 grand scan tool can instruct shift solenoids to operate and verify that they have. They can also diagnose issues with the data transfers. The Durango works entirely by computer instructions from module to module.

Shifting problems are a known issue.

My 1998 dodge durango slt wont drive past 40 miles an hour

Hello Jeff Winner,

Over the last 20 years ... cars have has a LIMITED OPERATION FEATURE added... When the engine READS something that is not IMMEDIATELY catastrophic... it will allow you to
LIMP home... rather than a complete shut down.

Limp mode:
You SHOULD also have a CHECK ENGINE light... (?)

My best advice is to limp on down to your near-by FREE code reading shop... and have a READER tell you what CODES are registered...

A blocked exhaust system will also seriously SLOW your progress
((soon to stop all-together)).

Hope this helps

Check you exhaust prices BEFORE you go...!!

Same cylinder all the time? What brand of spark plug did you put in? Have you cleaned injector connection? If spark plug and wires are known good, injector and connection would be next. Did you erase code after other work done?

Dodge durango shuts down without warning

Hello
The engine and transmission in this cars drive train are fully electronically controlled by a computer called the PCM (Power Train Control Module). Whenever a problem like this occurs the computer stores a record of the problem (there are of course some exceptions to this, like the fuel pump, engine coolant temperature sensor and MAF sensor for instance) in the form of a fault code in its memory, to read these fault codes you must have the systems memory scanned with a special tool. Once the fault code(s) are read you then must perform the appropriate diagnostic testing to find and resolve the problem(s) DO NOT REPLACE ANY PARTS UNTIL A TRAINED TECHNICAIN HAS DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM TO AVOID SPEDING YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY ON PARTS THAT MAY NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM
