How much torque on a 2001 grand am water pump bolts

the water pump bolts torque specs is T=1.85 kg-m (13 ft-lb). you must set your torque wrench nicely and carefully not to break the bolts then there you go.

Its 105 inch pounds. Tighten the bolts in several steps. when done, check for oil leakage. But.....At this point, its a 2004. You dont need a torque wrench. Its pretty easy to feel it. Obviously dont grind em in after they get tight but once theyre hand tight, go in your order, (middle to out if thats what you like) and tighten them a little further each time. Get it to where if you put anymore pressure its going to go too deep. You can do it without a torque wrench on these. You'll know, but again, just dont go crazy. I never use torque wrenches anymore except for head bolts or something that important. I've been a mechanic for lot of years. Kind of grew up with cars though. I never have ANY issues with any bolts or anything not torqued enough or over tightened. (I have went too far into aluminum on a saab one time but that was one water pump bolt, did the rest a little lighter and it never leaked) But last time, I am positive you can do these valve cover bolts, on a 2.7 at that, without any torque wrench whatsoever. I didn't think anybody used them on valve covers anymore unless the car is like, new or something. You will be fine. But, If you're not comfortable, I get it. Go ahead and break out the small torque wrench and do em at 105 inch pounds. Can you even get a torque wrench on the back set of bolts on that back one? Anyway, good luck and I'm willing to bet that you tighten them a little further than 105 when you see how loose 105 is, maybe not. But, you might not be comfortable with only 105"lbs. Loosen the bolts on the front of the camshaft and the crankshaft... slide off the gears (or use a puller if difficult to remove). Replace your chain and gears. Replace with new bolts. Old bolts are slightly stretched from being torqued. The elasticity of the old bolts will not allow the proper torques without breaking or loosening again later. Use an impact wrench that has torque settings. An ordinary torque wrench is difficult to use as the motor wants to turn. Use the torque settings from a list of specifications for your engine.

TO REPLACE WATER PUMP.FIRST YOU HAVE TO DRAIN THE COOLANT SYSTEM. REMOVE AIR INTAKE DUCT AND RESONATOR. REMOVE THE RADIATOR SHROUD AND FAN CLUTCH ASSEMBLY REMOVE THE DRIVE BELT. REMOVE WATER PUMP PULLEY.YOU NEED A PIN SPANNER WRENCH OR STRAP WRENCH TO HOLD WATER PUMP PULLEY WHILE LOOSEN WATER PUMP PULLEY BOLTS .YOU CAN BUY STRAP WRENCH OR RENT PIN SPANNER WRENCH AT AUTO ZONE PARTS STORES OR OTHER STORES HAS TOOLS CAN BE RENT. ONCE WATER PUMP PULLEY REMOVED. REMOVE THE WATER PUMP MOUNTING BOLTS. REMOVE WATER PUMP. IF WATER PUMP STUCK YOU CAN TAP WITH SOFT FACE HAMMER OR A LONG PIECE OF ROUND WOOD.WHEN WATER REMOVED.YOU NEED TO CLEAN THE SEALING SURFACE CAREFUL DONT SCRATCH SEALING SURFACE. YOU CAN BUY CAN OF SPRAY GASKET REMOVER.CLEAN SURFACE GOOD THEN WIPE WITH LACQUER THINNER OR ACETONE.THEN GET WATER PUMP NEW GASKET MATCH HOLES UP WITH GASKET TO WATER PUMP. ONCE HOLES MATCH UP APPLY RTV SEALANT ON BOTH SIDES WATER PUMP GASKET. THEN PUT GASKET ON WATER PUMP THEN INSTALL WATER PUMP TO VECHICLE.TORQUE WATER PUMP BOLTS TO 89 INCH LBS .TIGHTEN WATER PUMP PULLEY BOLTS TO 18 FT LBS THEN PUT EVERY THING BACK VISA VERSA.

WELL YOU NEED TO DRAIN COOLANT SYSTEM.PLACE A LARGE DRAIN PAN UNDER THE RADIATOR TO CATCH COOLANT WHILE DRAINING RADIATOR.ONCE ALL COOLANT DRAINED OUT.REMOVE DRIVE BELT.REMOVE WATER PUMP PULLEY.REMOVE POWER STEERING PUMP AND MOVE IT ASIDE.THEN REMOVE WATER PUMP.MAKE WATER PUMP MOUNTING SURFACE CLEAN THEN INSTALL NEW WATER PUMP AND GASKET IN PLACE.IF WATER PUMP GASKET IS PAPER TYPE PUT GASKET SEALANT ON BOTH SIDES OF THE GASKET.IF YOU HAVE RUBBER GASKET DONT USE NO GASKET SEALANT.INSTALL NEW WATER PUMP TORQUE LONG BOLTS TO 25 FT LBS AND TORQUE SHORT BOLTS TO 16 FT LBS.TORQUE WATER PUMP PULLEY TO 115 INCH POUNDS.TORQUE POWER STEERING PUMP BOLTS TO 25 FT LBS.THEN INSTALL DRIVE BELT.FILL THE COOLANT SYSTEM.START THE VECHICLE AND CHECK FOR LEAKS.

If the water pump in your Pontiac Sunfire is making noise or has started leaking, it's time to replace it. The water pump is responsible for moving water and coolant through the engine, to the radiator and back to the block. The coolant absorbs the heat from the engine, then cools down in the radiator before returning to the engine. If the water pump is not working, the engine will begin to heat up until the it overheats; damage to the cylinder heads or other parts of the engine will result if the temperature rises too high.

Remove the negative battery cable from the battery with a wrench and set it aside. Isolate the cable from the battery so it can not accidentally make contact with the terminals.

Position a drain pan under the radiator drain on the bottom of the radiator. Open the valve with a wrench and allow the coolant to drain from the system. When the coolant stops draining from the valve, close the valve securely.

Remove the serpentine belt from the car by placing a ratchet and socket on the tensioner and turning it counterclockwise. Slide the belt off the pulleys and move the tensioner back to the free arm position.

Remove the alternator from the mounting bracket by removing the mounting bolts with a socket and ratchet. Lay the alternator off to one side where it will be out of the way.

Remove the three mounting bolts that hold the pulley on the water pump. Use a socket and ratchet to turn the bolts counterclockwise, then slide the bolts and pulley off the water pump flange.

Remove the four water pump mounting bolts with a socket and ratchet, then remove the pump from the engine block. Scrape off any remaining gasket material from the block with a gasket scraper

Position the new water pump with a new gasket into the hole in the engine block and install the four mounting bolts. Tighten the bolts with a socket and ratchet, then torque them to 22 foot-pounds with a torque wrench.

Slide the water pump pulley on to the front of the water pump and install the three mounting bolts. Torque the bolts to 18 foot-pounds with a torque wrench.

Reinstall the alternator into the mounting bracket and secure it by installing the two mounting bolts. Tighten the bolts with a socket and ratchet. Reinstall the serpentine belt over the accessory pulleys.

Fill the radiator with new coolant at a mix ratio of 50 percent water to 50 percent coolant.

Connect the negative battery cable to the battery and tighten the retaining bolt with a wrench. Start the car and allow it to run while filling the radiator with coolant. It will continue to take coolant until the system is full.

Replace the radiator cap and let the car run until it reaches normal operating temperature. Visually verify that there are no leaks from the pump and watch the temperature to ensure the car does not over heat and runs within the normal range

Snug. No need for a torque wrench. Snug is before REALLY tight. REALLY tight breaks bolts. it's a feel that you acquire.

3.1L And 3.4L (VIN E) Engines

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
   
2. Partially drain the cooling system into a suitable container.
   
3. Remove the drive belt guard.
   
4. Loosen the water pump pulley bolts before removing the drive belt. This should help keep the pulley from turning as the bolts are loosened.
   
5. Remove the drive belt. Please see Section 1.
   
6. Remove the water pump pulley bolts and remove the pulley.
   
7. Remove the water pump bolts and separate the pump from the engine front cover.

1. Clean all parts well. Use care when scraping gasket material from the front cover and the pump. Do not gouge aluminum parts. Clean the bolt threads well. The torque specification is low and if the bolt threads are dirty, an accurate torque is not possible and leaks are likely to develop.
   
2. Using a new gasket, install the water pump to the front cover. Install the cleaned and lightly lubricated water pump bolts. Torque to 89 inch lbs. (10 Nm).
   
3. Install the water pump pulley and bolts and torque to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
   
4. Install the remaining components in the reverse order of the removal process. When refilling the cooling system, use the proper mix of DEX-COOL® and water. Check for leaks.
   

can we have a picture of fan/pump assembly?
if not, just fit the correct size of wrench on the bolts.
if you have adjustable wrench that could reach those bolts.
use socket wrenches, or close type wrench.

buy a new water pump, remove the radiator, remove the hose from the pump, remove the bolts that holds the pump, remove the old pump.

put the new gasket in the pump, dont forget to put a little bit of grease just to hold the gasket inplace. put the new pump, use the old bolts from where they are taken ( sometimes they are not of equal length ). if you have a torque wrench then use it to tighten the bolts with equal amounts of torque. put the hose back, put the radiator back, put water in the radiator, run the engine and look for some leaks at the new pump.
