Only way to know whats going on is to have the engine light checked with a OBD II diagnostic tool, there's a data link connector under the drivers side dash that it plugs into, you can buy one at most auto parts store's, or if you don't want to buy one some auto parts store's will check the engine light with a tester at no cost, for example auto zone, or you could take it back to the mechanic to see if he can diagnose the problem. The service engine light come's on when the pcm (powertrain control module) senses a problem. good luck !

It is attached to the fuel pump. Both are located in your fuel tank.
