Does it have a factory alarm? Do you have a second set of keys, if so try the extra key first. Your keys should have come with a extra little chip not in the key that tells what resistor they need to replace the key. Your key has a resistor in it that allows the car to start so it could just be the key. If it's not the key that needs replaced then the alarm module under the dash is bad. Unless the resistor in the key did in fact go bad which I have never heard of happening, then that would be a cheap fix. If it doesn't work with the other key then the security module under the dash is bad but can be bypassed but you won't have an alarm. It's really a very easy fix. I've heard of the ignition and/or key getting dirty after prolonged use and have been told that you can clean the key by rubbing and eraser over the resistor a few times and then spraying an electronic cleaner in the ignition and inserting the key in and out while it's still wet. Haven't heard of that happening much at all though. Battery has to be disconnected to do that though or could cause more problems. Electronic cleaner dries really fast and wouldn't harm anything. If you want to spend $10 bucks to give that a try it might be worth a shot. The right way to fix it is the replacing the key or alarm module if it's not just dirt film. Theres a panel under the stearing column that you remove but I will have to do some checking to tell you where the module box is located but I doubt you want to do this yourself. I think the dealership has to match the key to the module unless you have the chip? Not sure if they can just use the bad key or not. Dealerships charge between $60 and $100 just to pull the vehicle in the door so pray you have that little chip or that they can just use the key. But CALL a dealership first and ask if they can use a bad key without having the little I.D. chip. I guess to answer your question YES it could very well be the key itself. Hope this helps some!

You may want to check manual, or call dealer for disarm procedure, but some are disarmed by key in drivers door, (lock and/or unlock, some are passenger door) Try key in drivers door, turn left then right.

I put a new ingntion in my truck and set the theft system on how do i reset it.. my truck will turn over but wont start the truck is a 2003 ford f150 v6 4x4 manual

Does the anti theft light go on ?? Cranks but wont start right? If so you need to go to the dealer because your vehicle has a chip in the key. It cannot be programmed locally. If you go to a real good locksmith he might have the tooling to do it. Good luck it normally runs around 1 to 200 bucks! Sorry for the bad news!

2002 Ford F150 anti theft engaged, light blinking but wont turn over

Try turning the key from off to run ( do not start ) and wait 5 seconds, to see if the theft light on the cluster goes out.
If it does, check the fuel pump relay and the fuse for the fuel pump, and the fuel inertia switch in the passenger side kick panel.
If the light does not go out, as Ren1221 posted, try another key. If you do not have another key, you will need to tow it to a dealer or repair shop that can perform the erase all keys, and program 2 new keys.

WONT START

The flashing theft light means the key is not programmed for the truck. Hard to believe that the key you are using does not have one, else there was the short cut method for a remote start ( program key, and cut the key part off and wire tie close to the PATS transceiver ).
You are going to need a higher end mechanic or lock smith to program the cluster with new keys to make it work again, there is no way around this function.

My 2004 F150 will not start. When I turn the key the anti theft light just flashes. The key has not lost its code. I tried a 2nd key

the key has lost it's code, there is a chip in the key that communicates with the security system that the correct key is in the ignition and that the vehicle is allowed to start.

if you have any other keys on your key ring remove these and try again.
if no start and light still flashes the computer will need reprogrammed to accept the key.
the dealer can do this in like 10 -15 minutes usually.
