S-type; timing belt or chain?

Hi Kevin, Mate I had a look on youtube and all those 2.4L motors are belt driven... The two youtube videos links below are of a 2003 Mitsubishi Galant 2.4L with a timing belt and the next is a Mitsubishi 2.4L sohc with a timing belt, I hope this helps.....CHEERS.

Freelander TD4 diesel has a chain (mega bucks), L series diesel (pre BMW engine) has a belt (plus a small belt for the injection pump). the K series 1,8 petrol and KV6, 2.5L also have belt's.

Your vehicle does not have a timing belt, it has a timing chain so no worries mate.

You forgot to say which engine is in your vehicle?
The HZ engine has timing gears and a timing belt (That's a diesel engine) the belt drives the injector pump
The KZ engine also has gears and a timing belt,. (Also a diesel engine) same as above.
The RZ engine uses just a timing belt (And that one is a petrol engine)

yes, all autos have either a timing chain or belt. It is located behind a front panel in the engine.

The V-6 4Runner has a serpentine timing belt...no chain.

The vehicle has a belt and should be changed every 60,000 miles.
