Why is my car draining my battery even when my car is turned off?

We take off the terminals and the car started after but now the car will not start and even when the car was off it was still pulling power from the battery and we can not find the problem.

SOURCE: Car won't start or even crank at all.

Check the current draw on the starter when it is cranking the car. If it is excessive it mans the starter is dragging the field with the armature because the bearings are worn out. If the current is not excessive to the starter then it is likely a short in the power cable circuit somewhere.

SOURCE: car was running, electrical wire burning smell, starter makes grinding noise, with the car running, stop the car, starter keeps making grinding noise, with the car turned off, ABS and trac control

You have the polarity of the battery backward somewhere. Did you replace the starter and hook it up backwards. Difficult but possible. Check your positive and negative on the battery itself.

My headlights won't come on or dash won't light up. Inside my 2000 Ford Expedition the lights won't come on. Truck won't even start. Is my battery dead?

The battery may not necessarily be dead. Your description sounds like there might be an interruption in the electrical path from the battery. The alternator on a car/truck replenishes the battery. If the leads going to the battery are loose or dirty, the battery will not be replenished and will eventually be drained.
  • First, check the leads on the battery. Check to see if they are loose, and more importantly, if there is any corrosion on the leads or battery terminals. If the battery leads are tight, but have visible signs of corrosion, the corrosion is interfering with the electrical flow from the battery. Remove the negative battery terminal. If there is corrosion (greenish or whitish substance) inside or outside the battery terminal or lead, it can be removed with 80-120 grit sandpaper until the lead/terminal is shiny, then reattach the lead to the battery and tighten snug. Perform the same check and cleaning on the positive terminal.
  • Try to start the car. If it won't turn over, but there are lights (even if dim), the battery is weak. Jump the battery from another car and start it. Let it run for about 10 minutes to replenish the battery level. I hope this helps you.

New battery and wont do anything when i turn key

it's a long shot but if you have the soft lead type terminals they won't let a car start if they have even the slightest of crack in them and they will drain a battery rather quickly

My car is hard starting even if the had a good ignition switch and it's battery always drain even if my alternator is working good. the terminals of the battery were properly attached also.. what can i do...

get your battery checked, it would be a good idea to get the car checked for power drains that occur even when the car is turned off ie; sound system.

Positive terminal keeps getting corroded even after 3 weeks.

Try keeping the terminal far away from any moisture and dirt. In fact isolating it may not be a bad idea. Try getting a battery box for it or sealing off the existing one, just make sure to use a drain tube and vent. Some stores have battery terminal isolators, these are less effective but can help. There is also a battery terminal sealant spray that may be helpful if you cannot get/use a battery box. Clean the terminals thoroughly, spray the terminal sealant, and use the battery box for a three way attack. This is especially use full in harsh climates. These methods can also be used on remote battery terminals that are on some cars.
