Re: 1997 Chevy Monte Carlo key is stuck in trunk lock
I would try loosening up the key and lock with wd40. Then wiggle the key around a bit and hopefully it will come out. Just be careful not to use enough force to break off the key in the lock.

I have a 97 Monte Carlo that has locked me out a number of times. I have never experienced the trunk doing it's own thing. What I have done is simply remove the fuse to the power door locks. I drive it to work and am usually the only rider so no big hassle for passengers.
open the trunk, pull the carpet back, were the radio antenna is you will see a single wire connector. take a jumper wire and hook to this connector and ground it to the radio antenna. you should here your door lock, it should lock and unlock at this time press any key on the remote and you should here the locks activate again . then unhook the connector from ground and try your remote it should be programed now.
Is the battery dead or disconnected? I've had that problem in another Chevy. With battery disconnected it would not return to the off position and allow me to remove the key.
