With the AC off neither cooling fan is running, temp gets up to over 200. When i turn on the AC both fans imm. start and it cools to just below 200 degrees. PLease help
IF YOU HAVE A SCANNER, WATCH THE COOLANT TEMP. LET THE ENGINE RUN UNTIL THE FANS COME ON. IF THEY DO. THE SYSTEM IS DESIGNED TO COME ON AT AROUND 228 DEGREES.

The fan should work off of the water temp. The fan will come on and off to keep the constant temp on the cooling water. If equipped with a second fan it is probably for the AC and will run when the A/C is on. If you think the fan should be on. Then If you know where the fan relay is check to see if it is hot, if real hot the relay may be going bad. Hope you know this when you turn the car off the fan can still come on if the water temp is to high. My thought fan going bad, temp sensor or relay may be the problem.. If you can touch the fan motor metal housing and it is real hot the fan man be going bad, remember the blades can start at any time.
check your cooling fans make sure they are working, to do this start your engine and turn on the ac the cooling fans should be running, if it does the next thing to check is the temp sensors, to do this turn off the ac, while the engine is running keep an eye on your temp gauge if the dial is going up above normal or at the point where you say the engine is running hot check if the cooling fans are running,
1) if not running, cooling fan sensor is not working, replace
2)if running, thermostat is shut, the thermostat regulates the flow of coolant in the engine it is fully open at normal operating temp and close if coolant is cold, replace
how to replace thermostat go to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dG5MhY8Bieo
Many things could be your problem
1- coolant temperature or wiring defect
2- Cooling fan not working
3- Need to retrieve any engine faulty code with a scanner.
4- With a scanner look for any data that is not normal.

Are the cooling fans coming on during normal operation? If your ac works turn it on and see if it overheats with ac on.If it does not overheat the fans are not operating properly under normal operating conditions. The ac will force the fans on. What you can do to start is just let the car idle in park and see if fans will come on normally. The coolant temp should reach 200-210 before the fans will come on. Make sure the air is off at this time. If we can verify the fans are working or not working properly we can go to the next step. Let me know what you find out.
Electric cooling fans do not run all the time. They will only come on if the engine exceeds normal operating temp. Also will run when AC is on. Easiest way to make sure they are operating properly is to first verify they run when the AC is on. Next turn the AC off and run the engine at 2500 rpms sitting still and monitor the temp gauge (don't let it get into the red). The fans should come on after 10-20 minutes (depending on outside temp.). As the engine cools down they will turn off.
Check radiator fan switch.
