LOOK CLOSELY along the valve cover area and there should be a metal tube.....this feed the heater core fluid, and it can corroide and leak....either replace the tube or replace it with one piece of hose....I would get the correct part..but both works....GL

2002 Ford Taurus runs horrible sometimes....when it's running bad the air quits...how do I find it if it is a vacuum leak?

The age of your vehicle also guarantee's a vacuum leak. It may sound silly but the truth is rubber grommets, and hose's shrink and dry out over time and the harsh environment under the hood makes it worse. Check all vacuum lines and fittings attached to the intake manifold, valve covers (pcv valve), and be sure to check for a vacuum fitting on top of the intake just behind the throttle body. Does it fit tight in the hole? You can seal loose fittings with a high-temp RTV (Red) silicone sealant/adhesive. Several small leaks add up and your engine, heat/AC, and transmission will be all to glad to tell you about it.

Need to replace pc valve on 2000 Ford Taurus. Can't find it.

Should find it on valve cover

Clean it every 3 years & put it back

Spray it with Brakleen etc

It only stops oil from leaving
the valve cover,no other function

As long as the hose doesn't
have a vacuum leak, you all set

The PCV Valve will last 20 years

I have a 2006 Ford Taurus SEL and my gas cap light came on followed by my check engine light within 2 days time. The car seems to be running fine...is this a situation where I just need to replace my gas...

Not necessarily. If you get a scan of the system, you will probably see the computer has set trouble code P0455. This can be a large leak anywhere in the evaporative emissions system. The gas cap is always the first place to look. If the cap is loose, there's your problem. If not loose, look over the seal and also the inlet pipe to see if it looks like it could be leaking evaporation gasses. If in doubt, replace the cap.
If there was no problem there or if you put a new cap on and the light stays on for days afterward, start looking for another leak. There is a vent line coming off the fuel pump along with the fuel lines. It is usually connected with a short rubber hose to the pump assembly. make sure that hose isn't leaking. Then follow the vent line to the evaporation cannister. Check all hoses at the cannister and the cannister itself for damage. Then follow the other lines from the cannister. You should encounter the vent valve along the way. Make sure the vent valve isn't stuck open or leaking. Well, that's the whole system except for the part that sets the code. There is a little pump somewhere that pressurizes the system to check for leaks. Make sure that thing's hoses are good too. At this point, you should have found the leak. If you have any questions, please let me know.

My 2002 ford taurus leaks anti freeze and was told it was head gaskett or timing gaskett. The oil is fine and the leak is not all the time.

More than likely (and hopefully) it is the timing chain cover gasket. Common problem on Tauruses with the Vulcan V-6. Had the same problem. Replaced gasket and leak stopped. Not cheap if taken to a mechanic, but is doable if you have some experience and the equipment.

Turn the key to start car and it does start. But whenkey released car cut off. Car started to have high idle and sound of loud air from somewhere before this problem started ad if the heater was turned on...

Look for a loose or broken vacuum hose... a handy tool to use is a piece of 1/2 inch diameter hose to use as a stethoscope... sometimes you can locate the leak that way... if the leak is from the heater controls it might also be under the dash (although most cars have a check valve to prevent a leak in this system from killing the engine) ...Hope this helps...;-)
