I have a 1993 gmc seirra. It runs fine everything. But when you have to stop my oil gauge drops and it acts like it wants to die. Even worse when the head lights are on. Can someone please help. I'm clueless

I'm having the same problem at the shop I work for. So far I've changed the computer chip in it, throttle position sensor, and it seems to be doing better. Haven't found the real exact problem yet so if it fixes it let me know please. Chip is about $80 from Autozone and tps about $40 or $50.

This could be a number of things but i think that your problem sounds like a vacuum leak or an EGR problem. Try listening for leaks and try un-plugging the EGR solenoid valve one time.

SOURCE: 2002 jeep wrangler oil pressure gauge drops

When the gauge is at 0, is there any noise from the engine (tick, knock etc?) I would have someone put a mechanical gauge on there and read true pressure.Your driving pressure seems OK but if the low number is "real" something is wrong!

Most likely the Gage is not the problem these rarely go out. If the pressure is only dropping then the oil pump is getting weaker or is filling with sludge. Try running the engine with an oil additive such as marvel mystery oil or sea-foam. Then after the additive has circulated through the engine for a few heat ups and cool downs you can change your oil. the pressure should change almost immediately. If it doesn't then check the oil pressure switch. You can look on the side of the block and there will be a small piece shaped like a pencil with a wire coming from it. This piece is the oil pressure switch. Hope this helps. Please rate me if you think this helped. Good luck.

SOURCE: Oil pressure gauge drops after running and sitting still

The Oil pressure sensor seams to have gone bad and needs to be replaced soon as possible as they tend to leak oil soon after. There common to go bad and start with that since it's easier then replacing the oil pump, but if you don't hear any ticking from the engine and you have good pressure when the engine is cold then it's the sensor.
The 4 cylinder oil pressure switch is located below the A/C compressor. It is a single wire connection with a gray/yellow striped wire.

The 6 cylinder oil pressure switch is located on the passenger side rear of the block. It is a single wire connection with a gray/yellow striped wire.

Good luck and hope this helps.

SOURCE: Come to stop 99 Ram oil pressure drops to 0 check gauges light.

Change the oil! The 318Cu in V8 (5.2 liter) engine has a problem with sludge build up on the oil pump pickup tube screen. This engine requires oil changes at or before 3500 miles with a high detergent oil.

Oil pressue gage just started acting up when moving it stays at 40 when you stop and are idling drops just above red zone

put a manual oil pressue gauge on the truck and make sure your not losing oil pressure, it would not be wise to assume the gauge is bad and turns out your wrong and need a new motor ;(. could be the sending unit but best to check for pressure before throwing any parts at it please rate -jeff
