SOURCE: engine falls below 500rpm lights dim and engine stalls out

I had a bad air conditioner compressor that caused this same problem. It had almost completley seized and gave the car some real trouble starting. The burning smell I had was caused from the belt rubbing around the seized pully.

SOURCE: rough idle on 1990 saab 900 convertible, 16V

Because the car has adaptive technology, it may take a while to reset and adjust to the new, cleaner and better conditions than those to which it had previously adapted.

Did you change the cap and rotor? if the plugs needed replacement, likely they do too

Possible other causes include:

loose or corroded connections to any electrical component you disturbed (make a checklist and tick them all off as you check them);

mis-reinstallation of any F.I. part disturbed(checklist again)

obstructed water flow through the AIC valve;

improper voltage output from the AIC valve (for LH 2.4 systems, should output 8 volt at idle, dropping as load increases; for LH 2.4.2 system output 7 volt at idle etc; testing between terminals)33 and 17 at disconnected LH connector;

possible problem with MAF.

Hope this helps

SOURCE: mercedes c240 2001 low idle speed

Yes,check the fuel pressure & filter. There's about a million other things to cause this,so start simple. Ask again if this doesn't help.

SOURCE: Replaced the battery in 2002 camry now it won't idle

When you replace battery in 2002 Camry ECM tries to reset to factory levels. The reason it will not idle is that the throttle body is dirty and ECM thinks it should be new!! Clean throttle body with cleaner that is safe for tbs and this will fix your idle problem.

SOURCE: low idle, almost dies

Here is the common cause of surges, stalls at stops, slow idle speed, erratic idle speed, rough idle and engine hesitation (and other problems), it is in most cases the idle speed control air-bypass valve and or throttle valve and upper intake, these area's get full of gunk and combustion residue over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls, low idle) like yours, Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake.

01 dakota 4.7 after few hours it takes couple seconds longer to crank bout 6sec. After that it starts fine. Now its a 3 second delay and a wierd idle then goes away. At a stop sometimes drops 500rpm?

Check engine light on? If so go to any major auto part store and ask them to hookup computer for diagnostics codes. This is a free service. Sounds like a sensor gone bad.

Idle runing dropped down

This problem is commonly caused by a dirty automatic idle speed control valve and throttle valve. Buy a can of throttle valve cleaner (do not use carburetor spray cleaner!) from NAPA or Carquest (made by CRC chemicals) and spray it into the air intake while the engine is running, use up about 1/2 the can, engine will try to stall hold the speed up, shut it down and let it soak for 30 minutes, restart and blow out the remaining fluid, shut it down and disconnect the negative battery cable for 5 Min's to reset the base idle control

Low idle and dies when hot

Check and clean your idle air control port. If you pull off the air intake port and feel inside the throttle bore you will feel a hole in one side or the top. Clean that out real well with a brake cleaner or carb cleaner solvent. You may also want to clean out the the throttle bore itself. That should at least help with your idle problem.

Good Luck
