i assume you have checked all lighting fuses. if you have not, start there. do you have brake lights? if you do have brake and head lights then i would suspect the dimmer/light switch.
Have the battery and alt tested for free at the local parts store. Tell them what it's doing, and start suspecting a fuel issue. Could be getting the right amount of fuel but not burning it. (plugs, wires, coil) Or could not be getting enough fuel.
Still hard to say, so get the charging/power system checked first. Let me know what you find out as I'm real curious now.
Same happened to a friend and it was the fuel pump.... Same for another friend and it was 2 bad coil packs.
try get an auto electrian try operate the starter manually from the engine compartment.You should be in a better position to pin point the cause of trouble

normally when you start this do you have to hold brake pedal down to move gear stick.
also do your hazard lights work.
have you checked your fuses.
