Testimonial: "I'm on a flat lawn right now, I can move the gear handle out of the park position, but the rig is not moving & wheels are not spinning. It feels like the rig is stuck in park with brakes locked. There is no brake release lever or brake release pedal like in a normal vehicle for the emergency/parking brake."

Getting my 97 Ford expedition into neutral without a key

Brake-shift interlock The brake-shift interlock feature prevents you from shifting from P(Park) unless the brake pedal is depressed (with the ignition in the On position). If you cannot move the gearshift out of P(Park) with the brake pedal depressed: 1. Turn ignition key to Off. 2. Apply the parking brake. 3. Turn ignition key to Lock and remove the key. 4. Re-insert the ignition key and turn it to Off. 5. Shift the transmission to N(Neutral). 6. Start the vehicle. If you need to use the above procedure, it is possible that a fuse has blown and your brakelamps may not be functioning. Refer to the Roadside emergencies chapter for instructions on replacing fuses.

93 Georgie boy Cruisemaster motorhom 93 Georgie boy Cruisemaster motorhome stuck in park i 93 Georgie boy Cruisemaster motorhome stuck in park any ideas on how to fix

As with most cars and trucks, if the shifter won't move out of park, one possible cause is a faulty brake switch or shift lock solenoid.
If the RV is on flat ground and the park pawl is not under heavy load, you may be able to shift out of park by unlocking the steering wheel but not turning the key to the on position. Make sure the parking brake is set before you try it.

I have a Lexus RX300 1999 model and have this recent problem. engine running normally but gear gets stuck in Parking mode and won't shift. had to depress the emergency button on the gear shift and

Hi there,

Some automatic vehicles rely on the brake switch (mounted on brake pedal) to be activated by depressing brake pedal. This signal then operates a relay and switch, to release the gear lever.

Firstly, I would check the brake pedal switch (are your brake lights working?).

If brake switch is confirmed OK, then inspect the relay (and related circuit components) of the gear release switch.

The shift is lock i need to know how to unlock it ??

you have shift solenoid fuse out or brake switch (If brake lights also don't work).

For emergency, turn igniton key to "OFF" position. The step on brake pedal and pull shifter out of park. Start car in neutral.
The next time you put it in park, you will have to repeat process. See process in owner manual.

RV c6 transmisson stuck in park

I think you may be fighting the shift interlock with the brake pedal. Remember, to shift out of Park you need to step on the brake.
You might need someone to hold down the brake pedal while you try to realign the rod from underneath.

Keys are stuck in the ignition

Common problem on these and Saturns as well. While car is off, try turning key back to on position while pressing down the brake pedal then shift the shift lever into gear and then back to park....see if that helps. Another thing to do is to apply the emergency brake when you park then remove the key. Lastly, in the box that contains your shift lever is a cable that runs down to your brake pedal, also here you will find a solenoid, sometimes if these solenoids start to go it will make it difficult to remove the key as well. Ocassionally twisting on the cable(i mean tightening the cable to take up any slack) that runs from brake pedal back to shifter will resolve this as well.

Car will not go out of park 2002 mountaineer is stuck in park - will crank but cannot put in gear

CLICK HERE FOR YOUR OWNERS MANUAL in PDF format.

Check your shift interlock switch on the brake pedal. If it is out of alignment or has failed the shifter will not unlock to enable a gear selection.

Also - a fuse may be blown, or you may have a taillight out.

You can manually unlock it in emergency situations.
Taken from P.181 of the manual......

Brake-shift interlock
This vehicle is equipped with a brake-shift interlock feature that prevents
the gearshift lever from being moved from P (Park) when the ignition is
in the ON position unless brake pedal is depressed.
If you cannot move the gearshift lever out of P (Park) with ignition in
the ON position and the brake pedal depressed:
1. Apply the parking brake, turn ignition key to LOCK, then remove the
key.
2. Locate the access cover plate to
the brake-shift interlock override. It
is located on the underside of the
steering column.
3. Rotate the access panel
(counterclockwise) with a flat head
screw driver until it is lined up to
the access hole in the open position.
4. Insert a tool (or screw driver) into the access hole to override the
brake-shift interlock. Apply the brake and shift into Neutral.
5. Return the cover plate (rotate
clockwise) to the closed position.
Start the vehicle.

If it is necessary to use the above procedure to move the gearshift lever,
it is possible that a fuse has blown or the vehicle’s brakelamps are not
operating properly. Refer to Fuses and relays in the Roadside
emergencies
chapter.
