Sounds like a bad relay, or ignition switch. If you are not getting power to the solenoid when you turn the key, check for power at the relay. If you get power in, and none out, replace the relay and see what happens. If not, you most likely need a switch, or possibly a bad fuse.

2003 Ford Ranger 2.3, started fine, cut off suddenly, wont start back up?

Could be several things. Battery connection, starter solenoid, starter, neutral safety switch, ignition switch. First have someone hit the starter while the key is in the start position. If no start, check to see if voltage is at the starter solenoid. Try moving the gear indicator back and forth from P to D with the key in crank position. Make sure the park brake is set. Make sure the battery cables are clean and tight. There should be several feed wires coming off the positive post. Make sure all are ok. Some are fusible links and may have burnt.

Car won't start without a jump but battery okay

wont crank or wont start.??
no car starts , if it cant crank. (unless push starter (M/T magic)
that is not a trans sensor its the PRN switch.
ill answer for, wont CRANK !
it wont crank even with a good battery (charged) or jump started.
1: bad start
2: bad wires to same.
so hot wire the starter small wire, the key start line is tiny.
cranks. , starter good, no crank starter bad or cables bad.
if it cranks hot wired, then the key line is dead.
easy, huh?

Van wont start. no power

Maybe the starter or starter solenoid is bad. First, make sure connections at battery and starter are clean and tight. Old school method: turn headlights on, and (if good and bright) observe them while someone turns key to crank. If they dim noticeably and starter makes no sound, likely the starter has failed. If you observe no difference in headlight strength, then likely the starting circuit from ignition switch to starter solenoid is not working. You could take the wire off starter solenoid and see if it has power there while key is in crank position. If you do have power there, starter needs to be tested, or the solenoid is bad. If no power to the solenoid when cranking, then the circuit from the ignition switch to the solenoid will need diagnosing. Your neutral safety switch, and possibly a starter relay is in that circuit before it reaches the solenoid.
Good luck.

I have a 96 Dodge Intrepid and it wil not start. it clicks when you try to start it. All of the lights in the car are on. the battery has been charged. it cut off on me a few days ago and i thought i...

solenoid clicking, troubleshooting steps: Run 3 tests to troubleshoot.

1. try to jump start at battery terminals
2. unhook the jumpers and try to jump the solenoid following procedures at http://www.fixya.com/cars/r6222268-engine_doesnt_crank_turn_over (see picture there--make sure car is in park or neutral)
3. Only if #1 and #2 fail to crank the engine, smack the starter motor (not the solenoid) with a hammer and then try to start.

Based on results of above tests, here are solution options:

If smacking the starter is the only test that worked, you have a dead spot on the starter commutator--replace the starter.

If it will jump start but will not crank by jumping the solenoid, check to make sure the battery terminals are clean and tight.

If it will not jump start and will not crank even by jumping the solenoid, the problem is either the cable to the starter or the starter/solenoid itself.
check the big red wire that goes from the battery to the starter and make sure it is strong and tight at both ends. If that is good, replace the starter/solenoid.

If it will not jump start but will crank when the solenoid is jumped, the problem is with the start circuit not getting sufficient current to the solenoid. This usually only happens when there is a separate starter relay (in the engine compartment relay box) that is worn out. Replace the starter relay.

Please let me know if you have questions.

The car won"t crank, 1992 Volkswagon Passat

If the switch (neutral safety switch) is broken, it will not crank regardless whether you jump the battery or a new battery is installed. I don't have specific manual for your year that's why my advice is as in general. With a remote starter tool, bypassing the solenoid wire with remote starter which is connected to the positive terminal of the battery of it's other end. Once positive current flows from the battery, through the remote switch, flowing towards the solenoid, the starter should engage indicating a bad wiring harness connection from ignition switch. If it doesn't crank at all you may have a bad starter assembly and needs replacing. If your starter is clicking using it's own battery power, your battery is low of charge or your charging system is malfunctioning.

Pls, rate this suggestion, thank you.

95 jeep cherokee country 6 cyl auto. wont crank all the time

Bad solenoid i would guess. Not making a connection there. Any basic wiring and ignition switch problems should be alleviated by jumping the starter with a screwdriver. I would check the solenoid and starter brushes

shorting to start motor will allow the motor to turn but the ignition system is still off.
try with key turned to ignition position.
suspect starter solenoid on starter motor.
suspect fuses maybe there is a fuse which has blown.
suspect ignition key switch maybe defective.
