2003 dodge caravan when it gets warm the fuel pump starts to make a high pitched "whine". Have about 80K on it, is this normal or should I look to change it out so it doesn't leave me sitting somewhere?
Thanks
With 80K, best to replace. When the pump gets warm the metal pump housing expands and increases tolerances to create the "whine"
I would change it, it's not supposed to whine, on it's way out.
I don't think your model has an external fuel filter but if it does and its cheap enough replace it first so you don't spend a bunch of money on a pump that may get you 100k miles or even 10k just because of noise.
It is very likely that it is on its way out but unless there is also a performance issue its probably fine...
In the future, if you have a habit of letting your tank get low (like below a quarter of a tank) then don't.... Cars with internal pumps rely on the surrounding gasoline to help keep the pump cool enough to operate without causing failure...
