SOURCE: Stalls at low speed when in cruise control

You sould have recieved a "recall" notice in the mail about the cruise control for fire and failure issues. they are adding a fusable link where the cruise control harness connects to the brake master cylinder. if you have not had the recall performed yet you should SERIOUSLY consider getting it done, mainly so it doesnt catch fire, but "could" be the result of the failure you've been experiancing! btw, almost ALL Ford vehicles have been affected with the cruise control recall. hope this helps!

SOURCE: when cruise control is on and is going up a hill the car sputters

It may be a coil failing. Check related wiring harnesses for the ignition system. Look for damaged wires and loose or corroded connections. Without proper test equipment it will be harder to identify. You can try removing and inspecting the spark plugs. With some luck you might notice one that is black or wet (at the electrode). Honestly it would be a good idea to have the codes read. If you go to Autozone, they will read them for free but the engine has to be on at the time that they read it. If turning off the ignition, turns off the engine light. You must leave the engine running during the test. If you have any other information or questions, please write back. Good luck.

My Cruise Control cuts off when going up a hill, and will not immediately reset. What do I do to fix this problem?

If your cruise control cuts off when going up a hill and will not immediately reset, there could be a few different issues causing the problem. Here are a few things you can try to troubleshoot the issue:
  1. Check the brake switch: The brake switch is responsible for deactivating the cruise control when the brakes are applied. If the brake switch is faulty or misaligned, it can cause the cruise control to cut off when going up a hill. You can check the brake switch by inspecting it for any visible damage or looseness and making sure it is properly connected to the brake pedal.
  2. Check the accelerator pedal position sensor: The accelerator pedal position sensor tells the cruise control system how much acceleration is being applied. If the sensor is faulty or out of alignment, it can cause the cruise control to cut off when going up a hill. You can check the accelerator pedal position sensor by inspecting it for any visible damage or looseness and making sure it is properly connected to the accelerator pedal.
  3. Check the cruise control system: If the cruise control system itself is malfunctioning, it can cause the cruise control to cut off when going up a hill. You can try resetting the cruise control system by turning the ignition off and then back on again, or you can try resetting the system according to the manufacturer's instructions.
  4. Check for any other visible issues: Inspect the vehicle and its components for any visible issues that may be causing the cruise control to cut off when going up a hill. This can include debris or foreign objects that may have gotten stuck in the vehicle, or damage to the vehicle or its components.
If you have tried these troubleshooting steps and the problem persists, it may be necessary to have the vehicle and its components inspected and diagnosed by a professional mechanic. They will be able to identify the cause of the problem and determine the necessary repairs.
In addition to the above troubleshooting steps, it is important to check for any diagnostic codes that may have been stored in the vehicle's computer system. These codes can help to pinpoint the root cause of the problem and assist with the diagnosis and repair process.
To accurately diagnose the problem and determine the necessary repairs, it is important to have the vehicle and its components thoroughly inspected by a professional mechanic. They will be able to identify the cause of the issue and provide a repair plan to get your cruise control system functioning properly again.

Intermittent Cruise Control Issue - cuts out when small bump in road is hit and may or may not re-engage after that.

Check the wire connector that plugs into the cruise control under the hood. Sounds like a loose connection. Remove the and reinsert the wire connector several times to make a better connection. Stepping on the brake pedal disengages the cruise control by a switch on the brake pedal, not the computer.

Car slow going up hills

check the connection between the accelerator pedal and the pump as there are two different operations at work . The accelerator cable linkage may be loose and not giving full throttle where as the cruise control is getting full throttle.

Cruise control not working

The pump is located on the passenger side of the engine compartment, back by the firewall. Look in the middle of the firewall by the cowl and you'll see a small plastic line going into the cowl. follow it back and you will come to a T fitting. Follow it to the passenger side and it will go into the Vacuum pump that controls the Cruise control. If you follow it to the other side, it goes under the Battery box. this is where the Servo for the cruise is located. Check the lines for small cracks, wear spots or even breaks. The plastic line can get beaten up pretty easily.
The easy way to see if it is your vacuum pump, turn the key on and listen. you will hear 2 distinct sounds. The first sound will stop in about 15 - 20 seconds. (fuel pump?) the second sound is the vacuum pump. If it turns off in 45 seconds to a minute (or slightly longer) the vacuum pump is probably ok, as are the plastic lines. The sound of the pump stopping means that vacuum has been achieved and is holding vacuum. If it keeps running, the pump is bad or the lines have a break in them. If the lines have had a hole in them for a long time, the diaphragm in the pump will have gone south. This is not a servicable part and the pump will have to be replaced. The pump is available from a dodge dealer but most likely the parts guy will not have a clue as there is no picture in their manual and a very poor description. When talking to them ask for a "03 Ram 2500 CUMMINS Cruise vacuum pump"
The part costs $212.70

Cruise control shuts off up hill

if the cruise control light has come on then i would take it to a dealer and have them hook it up to the scan tool and see what exactly is going on. I think that pretty much is going to be your BEST bet. However you should check your brake fluid because if your brake fluid is too low then the cruice control will not work.
