When an engine reaches running temperature the coooant is usaully under pressure (up to 8psi). It the piping is split or the clip is not tight then replace the pipe or tighten the clip. It might be possible to push the push the hose on further and then retighten the clip on fresh hose. I have seen duct tape wrapped tightly around a split hose work as a temporary fix. Make sure that the hose after the thermostat is getting hot as this will indicate that the thermostat is opening as it should. If it remains only warm the thermostat could be faulty causing the engine to run too hot and pushing pressures too high and causing the venting of steam.

If its the stat then you will need a 13mm socket and ratchet with extension to remove the bolts that hold the stat housing to the motor. a drain bucket to drain the cooling system below the level of the stat, remove stat and clean surfaces on both the housing and motor. install the new stat and gasket reassemble in reverse order and refill the cooling system and run engine to operating temp and make sure all air is out of system.

a bad heater core will just leak. it could leak alot. do you ever smell antifreeze? check the coolant level. it can get pretty low before it will overheat. the thermostat should be ok but there could be corrosion. when you had the water pump replaced was the cooling system flushed? 2001, its probably due for a flush. what coolant does it take? (green or orange)

SOURCE: 1999 Dodge Durango NO HEAT

Bad NEW thermostat? I had the same problem on my first generation Dakota. The problem for me turned out to be the DODGE thermostat I used to replace the old Dodge part. I went and got a Stant from local auto parts store using the standard temperature spec and quit shivering the next time I drove it. I hope that helps!

SOURCE: THEROMSTAT/ 2002 DODGE DURANGO???

make sure engine is cool then drain coolant by opening the drain plug at bottom of radiator. remove cap from radiator so coolant will continue to drain and when coolant is down enough to pull off upper radiator hose at intake then close drain, then remove two bolts at coolant housing and remove thermostate. clean gasket material from intake and housing and replace with new gasket and thermostate tighten bolts install hose fill rad with coolant water mix 50/50 and run engine with heat on floor until gets hot and you see coolant flowing in rad, install cap

SOURCE: 2002 dodge 1500 Changed radiator, thermostat, and hoses. No heat

Why was radiator replaced?Did it have heat before ? If it was plugged, the heater core may also be plugged. Try flushing it with a water hose in both directions. I dont know why the botton radiator hose would be cold, the radiator should be a uniform temp and the air coming through the radiator should be HOT, when the engine is at operating temp. What condition was the old coolant? if it was rusty, the water pump may have lower flow than normal.

If it is fogging your windows, you have a leaking heater core. Dash removal is required to fix it.

No heat coming from the vents.

If it is a manual system--sounds like coolant low ie: air bubble in system. If it is ATC system, Check Codes, if no failure codes, coolant may be low--air bubble in system--most Durango's have air bleeders in system.

Dodge durango 2004 hemi over heating after all the repairs i have done new radiator, water pump hoses , clutch fan, radiator cap and 3 different thermostats,

The cooling system has to be bleed of air.To do this locate the bleeder on the coolant inlet on engine. Remove the bleeder and the radiator cap, fill with coolant until there are no more air bubbles coming out of bleeder. Top off resivor close bleeder replace cap. Start and let it get to normal operating temp, If all is good now you are finished. If it still overheats let it cool off until there is no pressure on upper hose .Carefully remove cap and repeat bleeding process

2004 Dodge Durango 5.7 hemi over heating i have replaced radiator, fan clutch, hoses, radiator cap, 3 thermostats and water pump whats next

Sounds like head gasket has gone. Hot gas from the fuel combustion is being forced through holes in the head gasket into the cooling system, causing hot bubbles in the coolant, sniff the bubbles blowing out of the reservoir, does it smell like fuel?

Is the coolant housing and thermostat the same on a 2005 magnum 2. engine if nt where is the thermostat

Follow the upper radiator hose to the engine. The bubbled piece if aluminum (or plastic) the hose connects to is the thermostat housing.

Overheating 2003 dodge durango. What could be the problem??

When engine running, ensure no engine combustion gas bubbles in coolant resevoir (if so, the head gasket is blown).

Check cooling fans are operating ok (when required when car warms up), if not check
1) fuse,
2) relay operation,
3) heat sensor switch.

Replace thermostat.
When re-filling cooling system, bleed off any airlock as necessary.

Check for collapsing (soft) coolant hose on suction side of waterpump when engine revs above idle.

No heat

You probably just need to backflush your heater core. You can use a hose to flush it back and then forward. You'll be surprised at how much sludge and gunk will come out.
