If you had someone put in the engine they should have reset the computers-its not transmission in limp mode its your engine and the computers have to be flashed to the engine most shops dont have the software to flash or reprogram the computers as to the transmission same if you put the engine you can ask a dealer what options you have, to get the computers reprogrammed

Does limp mode correct itself after known repaire needs are met or is a chip needed for reversal after repair, or just whats the process to recover from limp mode?

the limp mode is triggered when certain parameters that protect the engine/transmission from serious damage are exceeded
having run the fault codes to determine what caused the failure and then having repaired those faults , it is a requirement that a scan tool is used to reset the ECM back to pre limp mode readings
There is nothing in the cpu program that reads when repairs have been effected so it is up to you to reset the system

How can you tell if a new gearbox is needed other than a Ecu which has been replaced

have the fault codes read first
if the car is moving in limp mode with no obvious noises or problems , replacement of the box is a total last resort
light on the dash and limp mode can be transmission or engine or both but the fault codes will show the problem area
The ECU -- engine control unit or ECM --engine control module gets messages from the transmission control module ---TCM--and that TCM controls solenoids and servos , vss and other items that if faulty will put the car in limp mode
read the fault codes

After jump starting 2010 camry engine will idle only no acceleration

Hi there, if you have used jumper leads without a surge protector you may have fried your computer, if so it would have put the engine into limp mode, can I suggest take it to your local toyota dealer and have them check it for you. A code reader won't tell you if you have fried something if the MIL is not on

My 2000 dodge caravan just went into its limp mode for the transmission. It is staying in second gear and will not shift higher. What could be the reason?

The transmissions available in your caravan are problematic for having a bad solenoid pack. Once the transmission is set in the LIMP IN mode, then you need to take it to a dealer to get the code reset from the transmission and to get it diagnosed properly. I'm sure there will be a code such as, "trans solenoid stuck in LR" which means " low range" if the transmission went into limp in mode, then that simply means it defaulted to second gear only. Which is telling you to have it looked at asap. I'm sure if you repalce the transmission solenoid pack and gasket and perform the re-learn procedure, then your problem will go away. good luck!

94 thunderbird code 1505

Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P1505 indicates the IAC system has reached the adaptive clip.
Possible causes:
  • Air leaks.
  • Plugged air filter element.
  • Throttle body/linkage binding.
  • Contaminated or damaged IAC valve assembly.
  • Damaged throttle body
The Adaptive Idle Air Control (IAC) strategy is designed to adjust the IAC calibration to correct for wear and aging of components. When engine conditions meet the adaptive strategy learning requirement, the strategy monitors the engine and determines the values required for ideal idle calibration. The adaptive strategy stores these values in a table for reference. This table is used by the PCM as a correction factor when controlling idle speed. The adaptive idle table is stored in Keep Alive Memory (KAM) and retains the learned values even after the engine is shut off. A Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) is output to indicate that the adaptive IAC strategy has reached its learning limits.
Whenever an IAC component is replaced or cleaned or a service affecting idle is performed, it is recommended that KAM be cleared. This is necessary so the idle strategy does not use the previously learned adaptive values.
To clear KAM, refer to PCM Reset in Section 2. It is important to note that erasing DTCs with a scan tool does not reset the adaptive idle table.
Once KAM has been reset, the engine must idle for fifteen minutes (actual time varies between strategies) to learn new adaptive values. Idle quality will improve as the strategy adapts. Adaptation occurs in four separate modes. The modes are transmission select in neutral with air conditioning on; transmission select in neutral with air conditioning off; transmission select in drive with air conditioning on; and transmission select in drive with air conditioning off.

LIMP MODE

You will have to have the fault codes read and removed. If it is permanently in limp mode it may suggest another problem.
