What is the mileage on it? It is possible the starter has packed it in. These motors were also problematic with timing chains issues. Based on the fact it died at stop sign as you stated makes me suspect to a chain failure. Is the oil full? Is it low? Does it burn oil? Need more info.
its sounds like a bad ignition switch-try to jiggle it and see if its stop after you have turned key off- also those dinging sounds are to warn you that you have left something on -usually headlights or maybe even your dome lights which would account for your battery dying
While the car is running, disconnect Positive terminal of battery, if car continues running, alternator is good, you should replace battery,if it dies alternator is bad. Hope this helps
