I can't get the button off the rearview mirror foot to re-glue

The button on my rear view mirror foot is a little stubborn trying to come off of my 1998 Olds Bravada. Anyone know how to get it off?

No Torx Screw - the button is held in the mirror foot and I can't get it to loosen.

Should have a torx set screw on it, loosen it and use a flat screwdriver to pry button out of slot

The Olds Intrigue rear view mirror metal buttons don't unscrew. You have to pry it out of the slot with a metal screw driver. Be sure and put the pressure on the curved end of the button and use the little metal slot as leverage to pop it out. You have to get kind of aggressive with it to get out. Once it is out then you can adhere to the window per the instructions on your adhesive label. To re-instal the mirror you will simply slide it through the slot and lock into place. You will feel a hard snap when it is securely back in place.

My son was trying to re-attach his rearview mirror to the windshield of his f150 pickup using Loctite rear view mirror adhesive. When re-installing the mounting piece, he mistakingly glued it on backwards....

My experience with that would be to use a hot air gun or a hair dryer (would take a little longer) to heat up the mounting piece, then carefully use a razor blade between windshield and glass to remove the adhesive. Be Extremely Careful. Razor Blade will get Hot and Brittle.

Replacing the rear view mirror on a Ford Explorer is easy. The only obstacle you might encounter is fear of breaking the glued metal plate off the windshield. Do not sweat it. You can buy glues at the auto parts store to reattach the mirror to the windshield (Difficulty: Moderately Easy).

Instructions:
  1. Tap gently at the base of the mirror where it slides on over the metal plate glued to the windshield and pull upward. Some rear view mirrors have a small Allen screw that tightens the base of the rear view mirror to the metal plate. Disconnect the electrical plugs if your rear view mirror has them.
  2. Pull the rear view mirror clear of the metal plate. Clean around the metal plate glued to the windshield. If the metal plate has come off because of harsh weather or from hammering too hard at it, reattach it with glue designed for this job.
  3. Clean the area where you will be attaching the metal plate on the windshield. Apply the glue evenly on the surface of the metal plate that will go against the window. Be sure to clean and scrape off all the old glue before applying the new glue. Gently push the metal plate against the windshield in the spot you wanted it and hold tight for five minutes.
  4. Wait a day before putting the base of the mirror or replacement rear view mirror onto the metal plate. Do not force the base over the plate. Forcing it will likely dislodge it again. Press firmly until it will not slide along the grooves of the metal plate. Reconnect your electrical plugs and tighten the Allen screw if your new mirror has one. Adjust the mirror according to your safe viewing preference

Hope help with this (remember rated this help). Good luck.

2008 Honda Pilot Rear View Mirror Installation

At most auto parts stores, they carry what is called "Rearview mirror adhesive" - It costs about $4 or $5, and comes is a little "blister" package. It is a special two-part adhesive (utilizing a pre-cleaner and a "gluing" agent) that is REQUIRED for installing these mirrors on glass - Super glue will not work for this,... All you will do with superglue is make a mess... - The adhesive isn't terribly hard to use, but it does require a bit of patience, and I'd recommend following the instructions to a "T" for the best results (Temperature, time, etc..). Hope that helps some...
