1992 F350-7.3 4wheel drive is hard to start after changing fuel filter and fuel pump. Why is it hard to start?

indicates fuel leak back and fuel pressure drop
check filter installation for seal not sitting properly, loose fuel line fitting , pump installed correctly (flow wise ), filter installed correctly (flow wise)
air getting in to fuel lines
the thing you are looking for is indicated by the initial hard start but when started runs ok ( good fuel to the engine eventually) and then by the fact that if the engine is allowed to sit for a long period the problem returns meaning that the fuel pressure is not being held
could even be a problem fuel pressure regulator allowing the fuel to bypass ( no pressure =hard starting) then gets enough pressure to run ok but allows that pressure to drain off over time

How do you replace the fuel filter on 1997 Chevrolet S10 pickup

The fuel filter is located on the driver side in the middle of the truck the filter is bolted to the frame. There is 3 lines 2 inlet and 1 exit. When you disconnect the fuel lines you can use a pencil to plug the holes for each lines. . The fuel filter is wedge and maybe hard to remove. make sure you do not cross the fuel lines when you install the new filter.

Where is the fuel filter on a 2.2 engine for a 2000 Chevy Cavalier?

The fuel filter is directly behind the fuel tank.Between the rear axle and the fuel tank. You may have to blow out the connector because it gets full of dirt and makes it hard to remove. You should also be careful not to release it to quickly because the fuel system is under pressure. What you need to do before removing the filter is remove the fuel pump fuse and start the car til it stalls. Then turn the key off and now you can remove the filter connections. You will still have some spillage but not as much.Try to have the other filter ready to install when you take the old one out. This will keep you from getting too much fuel on you.Once you have installed the filter cycle the key on and off about 3 or more times then start the vehicle.Hope this helps.Good luck.

2002 yukon hard to start, where is the fuel filter and how to replace it.

FIRST RELIEF FUEL PRESSURE BY REMOVING GAS CAP REMOVE FUEL PUMP RELAY START ENGINE UNTIL IT DIES LACK OF FUEL. FUEL FILTER IS MOUNTED TO THE RIGHT FRAME RAIL.NEAR THE FUEL TANK.YOU NEED A FLARE NUT WRENCH TO LOOSEN FUEL LINE AT FILTER AND A ADJUSTABLE WRENCH HOLD FILTER LARGE NUT WHILE LOOSEN FUEL LINE THIS KEEP FROM TWISTING FUEL LINES WHILE LOOSEN FUEL LINE.BESURE TO GO TO DEALERSHIP AND BUY NEW O - RINGS AT FUEL FILTER LINES.LUBRICATE NEW O- RINGS WITH CLEAN ENGINE OIL.WHEN INSTALLING NEW FUEL FILTER DONT OVER TIGHTEN FUEL LINES CUTTINGTHE O -RINGS AT FUEL FILTER.IF SO THEY WILL LEAK GAS WHEN YOU START UP ENGINE.WHEN DONE CHECK FOR GAS LEAKS WHEN DONE DONT DRIVE UNTIL YOU CHECK FOR LEAKS FIRST.

Hi Paulvilla13,

I'm not sure if your '87 is the same as my '88 or not, but mine is located just in front of the tank. I also have to remove the rear driver-side wheel to get at it.

Hope I've helped, don't forget to rate.

Basic service

Here are detailed instructions on the location, removal, and re-installation of your fuel filter. Hope it helps and have a great day!

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION
Carbureted Engines
These vehicles use two replaceable fuel filters. A small one is in the fuel line under the hood; a larger one is located at the rear, just inboard of the left rear wheel.
Whenever the filter(s) are replaced, take great care to avoid the entry of dirt into the lines. Also, pay attention to the correct installation position. It is possible to install the filter backwards.
FRONT
See Figure 2
  1. If applicable, disengage the filter or hose from its retaining clip.
  2. Using two fuel line clamps, pinch off both fuel lines. Take care not to crush the lines; just clamp them shut.
If the fuel hoses are hard or cracked, it is necessary to replace them.

  1. Loosen the fuel line clamps and slide them back.
  2. Using a twisting motion, remove the fuel lines from the filter.
  3. To install, use a new fuel filter and reverse the removal procedures. Start the engine and check for leaks. Correct any leaks immediately.
REAR
See Figures 3, 4, 5 and 6
  1. Raise and safely support the rear of the vehicle. Remove the left rear wheel.
  2. Remove the bolts securing the filter and its basket to the fuel tank.

  1. Loosen the fuel line clamps and slide them back.
  2. Using a twisting motion, pull the fuel lines from the fuel filter; remove the filter.
0900c1528005f26b.jpgFig. 6: After sliding the retaining clamps back, the filter can be removed from the linesTo install:
  1. Use a new filter and reverse the removal procedures.
  2. Make certain the retaining tabs are engaged when the filter is installed in the holder. Tighten the bolts until snug.
  3. Install the left rear wheel. Lower the car to the ground.
  4. Start the engine and check for leaks. Correct any leaks immediately.
Fuel Injected Engines
See Figures 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12
The canister fuel filter is located in the engine compartment. When buying the new filter, also buy new washers for the banjo bolts and the service bolt. Failure to replace these washers invites high-pressure fuel leaks. Replacing the washers is required, not recommended.
  1. Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
  2. The fuel system is under pressure. Release pressure slowly and contain spillage. Observe "no smoking/no open flame" precautions. Have a Class B-C (dry powder) fire extinguisher within arm's reach at all times.
  3. Disconnect the banjo bolts and/or threaded fuel line fitting from the fuel filter. Use of a flare nut or line wrench is recommended for disconnecting and attaching this fitting.

  1. Loosen the fuel filter clamp bolt, then remove the filter.
To install:
  1. Install the new filter and secure the clamp bolt.
  2. The upper and lower washers on each banjo bolt and the washer on the service bolt MUST be replaced whenever the bolts are loosened. Install the washers and banjo bolts. Tighten the banjo bolts to 16 ft. lbs. (22 Nm) on all models except 1992-95 Preludes. On these models, tighten the bolt to 20 ft. lbs. (28 Nm). If applicable, tighten the threaded fuel line fitting to 27 ft. lbs. (37 Nm).

  1. Tighten the service bolt to 9 ft. lbs. (12 Nm).
  2. Start the engine and check for leaks. The engine may crank longer than normal until full fuel pressure is developed. Correct any leaks immediately.
