I JUST BOUGHT A USED 1995 BMW 740IL THE SEAT AND STEERING WHEEL ADJUSTMENTS ARE NOT WORKING WHAT CAN I DO TO FIX IT
Here's what you have to do:
#1. make sure the fuse to the seat adjustment is not blown, its usually a 10 or 15amp fuse.
#2. unscrew the cover to the controls on the driver's seat and make sure the harness is not loose or
broken, if the harness fails to attach to the control board correctly the steering wheel and the
seat adjustment will not work, this harness tends to come loose and even brake over time due to
the constant movement when you get in and out of your car.
I hope this solves your problem.

I know exactly what is wrong here, I have a 2002 bmw x5 and I had the same problem. The main thing htat is wrong is that the module that the switches are on for moving the seats is broken. The steering wheel stops working in this case also because of the Memory feature. I replaced mine very easily, i got it out of a crashed BMW 2001 7 series from the junk yard and installed it in myself, its very easy. BMW charges 500$ about just for that one little part, i recommend you look around at junk yards and hope to find on there.
Disconnect both battery posts.. wait ten to fifth-teen minutes and try to move the seat then. make sure you check to see if the fuse is blown before reconnecting the battery post. i had the same problem and after i disconnect both battery post, everything worked fine.. God bless
