SOURCE: Car starts, drive a mile, stalls.

try haviing your alternator checked advance auto parts can check it while its on the car and the can check the battery too. if thats not it it may stall due to a loose battery connection or a loose ground strap. if it stalls and everything turns of (electrical) it may be a connection or ground strap.

My car keeps stalling everytime I stop or slow down but starts up straight away after it has stalled?

The vacuum hoses have probably started cracking at the turns. If there has been any under the hood work done, sometimes things get pushed on or moved and the rubber hoses on the vacuum system will get old and crusty and crack. That cause the car to die when it slows down to an idle, like at a stop sign or stop light. then it starts and runs normal until the next stop sign.

86 ford escort with carberator dies at stop

If the problem is not a vac leak, it could be the idle circuit inside the carb. You may have to replace or rebuild the carb to fix it.

The idle air control valve is what regulates incoming air when the engine is idling. In some cases these can malfunction and cause intermittent issues with stalling at idel until the IAC dies altogether.

Rough idle then stalls

Vacume leak or bad idle motor. With the car in park and running with the hood open listen for leaks moving your hand around the different hoses looking for a change in the sounds that you hear. Dies when idling, does better with a/c on, but still dies

this is your problem:

Here are the most common causes of surges, stalls at stops, low erratic idle speed, rough idle and engine hesitation (and other problems), it is in most cases the idle speed control air-bypass valve and or throttle valve and upper intake, these area's get full of gunk and combustion residue over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls, low idle) like yours, Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake
